It's a shame that there are always idiots on the border that (ab)use the match for their hooliganism

By the way did you hear about the newest addition to the Dutch football fan look?

The Wehrmacht helmet?

Well. It's okay, but it gets a bit boring after several decades. Like the WWII symbolism and jokes the English yellow press tends to use when reporting about England/Germany matches. It's just a game after all.

And of course the English are pissed because we usually kick them out in the semifinals by penalty shooting.

Yup it's quite a row over here. But most Dutch people hate Germans but hey I live near the border and my dialect is more like German than Dutch (but I still suport Holland  )

Any idea why? It can't be just because of the war, or is it? I think it would be pretty ridiculous if a 25year old Dutch would hate a 30year old German because of the war.

But I have to admit that many Germans do have problems with the Dutch as well. Must be some weird tradition.

Why do the English hate the French?

There are some reasons of which probably the most important one is football: remember 74. WE SHOULD HAVE WON THAT ONE! And that's why we are taking revenge this time.

Ow and some people hate Germans because they dig holes on the beaches.

And some Germans hate Dutch because they block our highways with their campingmobiles and shit in the woods of the Sauerland.

But my junkie clients love the Netherlands 8)

I'm English and I don't hate the French at all.

I also couldn't give much of a toss about our national football team.

I'm much more interested in the next round game with the scousers. Bring 'em on.

The book "Football Against The Enemy" by Simon Kuper has a great chapter on the rivalry between Holland and Germany- very interesting stuff.

Of course, Germany won't be beating England in any shoot outs in 2006 because they wouldn't even survive 90 minutes without losing. I have a lot of respect for German football- they have always had a habit of grinding out results, sometimes when they were not best team (e.g. v France in 1982 and 1986 World Cups). Having said that, the current German team has to be the weakest I have ever seen. Holland will wipe the floor with them.

You must be delighted the eagles avoided the nightmare prospect of a trip to Griffin Park to play Martin Allen's red and white army?

C'mon Irish Rover give us your story - am very intrigued by it (am sure there's more besides Celtic Dave & myself asking the same thing).
What's the origins of your quest for Irish citizenship?
