Certainly should do, I guess it all makes sense for the accountants. Especially now the MLS has got what they're apparently calling the "Beckham rule".

Though it all assumes that Team Beckham can break the US...

I heard Los Angeles this morning... Not that they can play fotball but nor can he

I think people are writing him off too early...

The difference is that Beckham's made all the money he needs to make from football, and may not be that interested in continuing a career in the sport... the impression is that he seems to have been more interested in other things for a while now. And the rules on foreign players in the US have been changed to fit in with players like him. It all sort of adds up.

Meanwhile I'm not going to comment on his fitness. In any sense. Though MissWalshy's comment confirms that football doesn't need to be his sole career option.

I think the amount of money he has made will have a huge bearing on where he goes. Can't see him coming back to Bolton or Portsmouth or somewhere simillar (No offence intended to those clubs but what I mean is the boy likes the Glamour 8) )

He won't be coming down here (Portsmouth), glamour is in extremely short supply at Fratton Park, but then again thats how we like it !

Mark WAFC - well done to the Wigan fans that came down on Saturday. £30 for a 3rd round FA cup match from an open end is scandalous

A couple of my mates made the trip - one is still off work with a cold! didnt bother myself, went down last season and we never take the FA cup serious so you kinda knew the result beforehand

Fair play to them, long way to come for a game like that. Although we've probably got the most decrepit ground in the Premier I still love Fratton Park (doubt many away fans think the same though!).

Came up to yours last year at the end of the season when we stayed up. Brilliant weekend, on the gargle all day , stayed over Saturday night. Were you there that day ?

I know what you mean, mate. Got a sneaking feeling we will be 'concentrating on the league' after the next round !

Yes was at the JJB when you stayed up, after the Cup final last year we went on wind-down and all but gave up! i think you might have enjoyed it more than us...did you stay over in sunny Wigan?

Fratton Park was great last year, we stayed down there for the night in Pompey and won 2-0 which put us 2nd behind in Chelsea in November!!

We stayed on the outskirts of Wigan, nice hotel (MacDonald Park hotel ?). Can't remember going back there that night though and woke up with a lump of turf in my pocket from the pitch invasion !
Spent most of that evening drinking around the town centre after going to a couple of pubs around the ground, the Wigan Pier and then back to the biggish pub by the station. Great night had by all. Like you say, we did rather enjoy ourselves that day !

Ah yes, I remember the game at Fratton now. You wiped the floor with us that day. How did you find Pompey for a night on the lash ?

Sounds like you stayed at the Kilhey Court Hotel - i live near there! Tis indeed a nice joint.

The Swan? or Brunells? are both near the station and the Orwell (at Wigan Pier) is a fixture for away fans walking from the station to the ground!

We stayed not far from Southsea when we went down there, an old big hotel on the front - a Best Western one?? Not sure what it was called now, if pissed it down all weekend i know that for sure - few pubs near the ground we went in were a bit iffy in that there was a group of about 8 lads and they seemed to take offence to us drinking in there - the last thing we wanted was trouble! after the game we went round the dock area (i think??) quite olde world ale houses - was a good night!

Thats it, Kilhey Court Hotel ! Very nice place, apart from the riff-raff they let in there that weekend !
Apologies for bringing home some of your pitch by the way ! Its grown well in my back garden, mind.

Think it was the Brunell (Hotel?), that rings a bell, chockers before and after.

Sounds like the Queens Hotel, opposite Southsea Common. Quite a grand old affair with an ornate reception area ?

Most of the pubs are generally ok these days. Sounds like wrong place, wrong time - sorry to hear that,Mark you lads shouldnt have got any grief after you were so hospitable to us.

Sounds like you were down by the Hard. Proper pubs down there. I'm sure you had a good night after going 2nd in the table !!!

Yes Brunell's Hotel - or Isombard Kingdoms as it's known in Wigan. It's £1 a pint in there so a cheap drink and no mistake!

Think it was a case of wrong time/wrong place, it wasnt much of a problem just that we'd just got a pint in and some burberry clad clown came over giving it the great i am. The landlord actually said to us he'd clod them out as he'd never seen them before but we left as it was unfair - we'd prob never go in again!!!

Oh and we will forgive you the pitch bit - there was only rugby playing on after us as it was our last home game and anything that means they might get beat is ok by us!!

Are you up for the game next month??

Well, of course, though whether Beckham Utd really need luck is another matter.

Be interesting to see whether it heralds another influx of ageing stars to the US league, like when Pele and Bestie and people went to play there in a valiant attempt to get Americans to like "soccer". Or in a valiant attempt to make loadsa money, I'm not sure which.

Blimey, did I just have the cheek to call Becks "ageing"?

Whatever people say about Beckham he has always performed on the pitch for United, England and Madrid, the fans over there like him. He's not even that old. I get the impression he has just had enough. I hope it goes well for him.

Im not sure, there was way to much of a circus that went with him and i think in the end thats why he left United and was dumped by England at 31.

Still, he's made his money and thats all that matters in the game today i suppose ??

Good player who could have been even better had it not been for his Mrs

The curse of the chav wannabe. Should have given him the good news and done society a favour.

Cheers, I'd heard the football lads werent too keen on the egg-chasers, so happy to be of assistance !

Going to Sheffield Utd this Saturday, not sure about Wigan yet. Think its going to clash with prior commitments unfortunately.

Yeah, I do agree really, I've never disliked Beckham. You can't deny him the right to make whatever use he can of his talents, even if from a football point of view it's a shame that so much of him has been diverted into the celebrity lifestyle - when it comes down to it, he's just an East End boy made good, I reckon. (Much like meself, though of course I don't have the looks, or the footballing talent, or the money, or the lifestyle, or the celebrity wife. Though the lovely Mme firehazard is a celebrity in her own way.) :)
