I was very excited to get to meet other Medusans and PRS folks at St Andrews. I was in quite the hurry to get down there, but never having been to NYC before, was very lost. My sister Kate seemed to be able to get around quite well and we headed to St Andrews on foot. I decided I'd try and look clever by using the GPS on my iPhone. After walking a while, and looking at the GPS, I said "we're going in the wrong direction...it's completely the other way from here"...whereby my sister Kate looked up and pointed and said "What the fuck is that then?" as we stood right outside St Andrews. I found it rather amusing as she doesn't normally swear. I know my little crew I was with were worried about these 'random online' people I'd been chatting about who I'd never met. (I've posted similar to this over on PRS so apologies in advance for duplicating) Here's who I met on 15th March, NYC.
Bob and Anna, who I first made contact with on PRS. They were lovely and are writing a book about Shane. They came all the way from from Mississippi to watch all three shows. Good for them
I had no idea what they looked like but explained what I might be wearing so they could find me. All of a sudden, a man came up to me and said "you must be Jane..I was checking out your butt". he he... see I had told him I'd have a glittery Pogue Mahone written across the bottom of my shirt at the back. Anyway, they were both were very knowledgeable about Shane and the Pogues music etc. As we started to chat, a cheeky fellow with a sparkle in his eye, who was sitting with a very attractive lady, who also looked very smiley, started to look over at us all talking. He was trying to earwig on our conversation. I looked over at him a few times too, and thought he might be one of us, but didn't know. Anyway, soon enough, I could take it no longer and I had to go over to him to find out (all 2 steps as he was at the table next to us). Turns out it was the infamous NewJerseyRich and his wife Michelle. In the mean time, my family were enjoying all our new found friends, and my sister said to me "you are very social for someone who's so..errm....anti social". I like that one. Anyway, then I spied that Phro37, he was quite easy to spot and a rather handsome chap to boot. He was very chilled and fun, and always had a beer in his hand. In the mean time I was having a lot of fun with NJR's wife. She laughed at my jokes, and this means she's high on my list of very cool people
Rich too, very happy and ready for a laugh. Then in comes Carmen...a petite package of Pogues filled energy! She is a trooper! She was also very fun, and smiley and up for a good laugh. We got separated during the show, but found each other again after with hopes of sneaking a peak at any Pogues band members. Got to see Spider, Darryl, and James. Spider I managed to sneak a quick handshake from, and James had a laugh with us as I mentioned. All very fun. I hope some time we can manage to arrange a get together of some description or a Pogues Party!
Now here's something though. During that whole show, and our NY trip, my husband Steve (who is only 27 - I know, Cougar Town) was suffering from a deep vein thrombosis in his leg, and pulminory embolism that we didn't know about. Basically, he had life threatening blood clots in his legs which had spread to his lungs! He could have died at any minute and there I was dragging him all over town doing all these activities. He kept getting out of breath but he thought it was a bronchitis he was recovering from! When we came back from our flight, at the airport he said "I think I'm dying"... I asked if he wanted me to get a medic, but he said no, and kept on to the car. Finally when we got home, his leg swelled up and I knew it could be a blood clot. He want to the ER and was admitted immediately to the ICU. He's going to be o.k., on blood thinners and all that. But imagine, being like that and going to a Pogues show and doing all that traveling. We are all o.k . and he's doing great now. Bit scary though! Anyway, had to bore you with my stories.... It really was lovely to meet those of you I met though. Sorry I missed the rest of you. Maybe one day.
