Any advice from you seasoned European travelers on where to get the lowest cost travel from Paris to Dublin and then Dublin to London?

Try this site http://www.ryanair.com/en
It's not the nicest way to travel, but probably the cheapest, and you're flights are not long :)

Or try this one as well http://www.edreams.net/

Hope it helps :D

Clash, you probably need to fly from Paris to Dublin, but might take a coach from Dublin to London for about 40 pounds. Again, not necessarily pleasant but will get you there.

http://www.eurolines.co.uk/

If you make it here, I can suggest nice places for a drink and will buy you one :)

Th Mrs and I are planning a similar trip next year. I've found some good deal at http://www.europeandestinations.com They let you choose how much or how little you want them to plan for you.

We have a London break booked for next week. It's a week early this year as Jake couldn't get my birthday week off. :(

I'm still trying to decide what theatre show to see while I'm there. A lot of shows currently on have been to Liverpool or are coming to Liverpool. If anyone has any recommendations please let me know.

Conor McPherson, The Weir - anything at the Donmar is a good bet
The Victorian in the Wall at the Royal Court?

Have a lovely birthday break!

Thanks Christine, it's more a pre birthday bash but never mind.

The Victorian In The Wall was one I was thinking of. I missed it when it was at the Unity Theatre, Liverpool a few months ago. I have a list of four possibles and I will be deciding very soon after I log off here. I was actually tempted by The Cripple of Inishmaan until I saw Daniel Radcliffe was in it.

How was your trip, Heather?

I am just back from the rain and floods of southern Germany to lovely sunny London - nice change!

This year's trip to London was fantastic. I always enjoy London and I am sorry to leave. Being a northerner however I find it can get quite expensive so we only usually stay for two to three nights.

We arrived on Tuesday 4th June and dumped our stuff at our hotel in Kings Cross and headed down the canal path into Camden Town (somewhere we had never been before). I loved looking round the markets there, it was nice to see a wide range of stalls including goth, hippy and punk. If I lived in London I think I would regularly shop there. We also went to the Devonshire Arms which made the day more special. Although now a goth/metal venue it is still my kind of place and the regulars are friendly.

Wednesday 5th June was spent mainly round Soho and the West End and we went to see One Man, Two Guvnor's at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in the evening which both Jake and I really enjoyed (see Going To The Theatre thread).

On Thursday 6th June we went to Portobello Road, Hyde Park for a picnic and had a pint on the Bayswater Road in the sunshine and went back to look at the Camden Markets again. After that we headed back to Kings Cross where we had another pint at O'Neills and sat in the sun watching the world go by. Then in the evening we went into McGlynn's (an Irish pub run by Liverpudlians), which is just off Argyle Square where we were staying, for a meal and then to The Lucas Arms on Grays Inn Road where we spent the rest of the evening. On Friday we came home.

I used to like to drink my breakfast at the Covent Garden one. It seems to be gone now. I know it's just a chain, but there's something about the place that struck my fancy. 8)

O'Neill's on Suffolk St. in Dublin is good too, having nothing to do with the other. As far as I know... which I don't, really.

July - Chicago - 33 Annual American Music Festival while youngest daughter spends a week at dance academy
July - Minneapolis - couple of music events
August - Deadwood, SD for the Deadwood Jam
October - Family trip to Europe

and I told the wife we were going to take it easy this year, so much for that...

I love State Street and was once overjoyed to have a suite from which you could see the Chicago Theatre sign if you jammed your skull up against the window just so.

It's gorgeous.
