I am positive that beer will be had during the many stops on this road trip. Or at least at the end of it (Sacramento is ~100 miles from Casa de DzM and, as we established a few days ago, ~100 miles is extremely drivable).

This would be a pretty good stop before Sacramento. I am pretty certain that we will visit Casa de DZM on our way. Thank you.

The next few weeks will be hectic

Post Sun Apr 24, 2011 4:45 pm

Last week I was in Austin, TX. But only for two days (three nights). Not nearly enough time to say that I was actually in Austin other than in a very loose "I breathed that air for a little while" way. I'm told the downtown is lovely, though. Maybe I'll have a chance to spend more time soon.

On Friday I'll be heading to Hawaii for ACTUAL holiday making. A week on Maui. I've heard that Maui is the Douchebag Island and that I should not judge the rest of Hawaii based on my experiences on Maui. But yay! Hawaii! I've never been and am quite excited.

The following week I'll be in Stockholm and Uppsala. I think the dates are roughly May 9 through 14/15. I'll be there for work and will be traveling with one or more co-workers, so opportunities for socializing and/or sightseeing will be limited. Still - anyone have any advice on what I should do when I manage to give my handlers the slip?

The week after that (or maybe the week after the week after that) will be a day or two in scenic Los Angeles. With any luck I'll make GeorgeCat, Carmen, and Lil Cupcakes buy me beers. And I will buy them beers. And we will all be drunk by the time we've all bought a few rounds.

If you track down the Medusan Swedes there's the possibility that they may buy you a drink. You may have to lend them whatever the equivalent of ten pounds is in Swedish money. 8)

One week Vienna in July.
One day Antwerp on July 11th. :-)
3 weeks Norway in July-August, with probably a short visit to Göteborg and Kopenhagen.
It's gonna be a fantastic summer!

A few years ago I spend some holidays in Stockholm, a truly beautiful city. :D

I´d strongly recommend seeing the Vasa museum. http://www.vasamuseet.se/

The old town, Gamla Stan, is very atmospheric, lovely narrow lanes, with Stockholm Palace situated in between.

You should also, if weather allows, enter a sightseeing boat to see Stockholm archipelago. It´s really impressive.

Hope you´ll be saving some money for the trip, though, as Stockholm is really not the cheapest place on earth. :?

Enjoy your trip !

I should be careful about my off-hand "maybe I could go places" musings. Here I sit in Austin again. Another two days, another three nights (unless I can manage to bump my outbound flight up a little - I predict there's zero chance of that happening on the Friday evening of a long weekend).

Still ... Austin!

Thanks much for the tour advice for Stockholm. A lovely city. The Vasa was really interesting. It was a little early in the year for the archipelago tour, but I did take an abbreviated tour. I also really recommend the incredibly overpriced and cheesy mead hall in old town. It's an amazing experience, and the vegetarian food was shockingly good (I suspect it was wrapped in bacon).

I telling you, Continental Club on South Congress is worth checking. Jon Dee Graham and James McMurtry most likely played last night unless they were on the road.

I don't know if this will be useful, but Bruges is quite boring. There's much more to do and to see in Brussels, Antwerp and - of course - Gent.

If they have beer in Bruges, it sounds perfect... Especially after the sensory overload I am expecting from the Museums in Paris.

Spent a few weeks in Paris back in 2001, here's my advice:

1. The Rodin Museum. He was a genius, his art is lovely and even if you didn't think you were much for sculpture, you will be by the time you leave. Plus, they give fair play to Rodin's student/lover/possibly the person he stole some of his best ideas from: Camille Claudel, with 15 of her sculptures (this was his wish, actually).

2. Museum of Eroticism. Of course it's in Paris... fun, titilating, and surprisingly informative.

3. The Eifel tower may seem cliche, but is actually worthwhile. The way Paris is laid out, you get a spectacular view. And, should you be with your sweetheart, why not have a kiss on the mf'ing Eifel Tower, yeah? Just go first thing on a weekday morning, or the lines are crazy.

And eat lots of baked goods. Find some street markets and eat lots of baked things. And flan. Yum.
