Still - anyone have any advice on what I should do when I manage to give my handlers the slip?

Not nearly enough time to say that I was actually in Austin other than in a very loose "I breathed that air for a little while" way. I'm told the downtown is lovely, though. Maybe I'll have a chance to spend more time soon.

I should be careful about my off-hand "maybe I could go places" musings. Here I sit in Austin again. Another two days, another three nights (unless I can manage to bump my outbound flight up a little - I predict there's zero chance of that happening on the Friday evening of a long weekend).
Still ... Austin!
Thanks much for the tour advice for Stockholm. A lovely city. The Vasa was really interesting. It was a little early in the year for the archipelago tour, but I did take an abbreviated tour. I also really recommend the incredibly overpriced and cheesy mead hall in old town. It's an amazing experience, and the vegetarian food was shockingly good (I suspect it was wrapped in bacon).

I don't know if this will be useful, but Bruges is quite boring. There's much more to do and to see in Brussels, Antwerp and - of course - Gent.
