Oi, guys! You are like seeing him off to war! Shite, what I am talking about, even Eric never got such a send-off..
Wipe off your noses. He is not the first , not the last who’ll go (if he goes at all) to a civil service. It’s not an event or a tragedy. It’s like going to work. Well, for somebody going to work IS a tragedy…
Ok, back to our sheep!

oih, but oi foirgoit, ye never heard such stuff.. managers must have em' earplugs or sth loike that;
oi bet ye use em' at goigs too!

Doesn’t it characterize managers positively? It means they do not enjoy others' suffering, doesn’t it?
Gigs with screams of pain? Hmm.. coming from where? Stage or audience?

You dutifully go to bed every evening and haven’t got up in the land of you dream ever? Strange. Did you try another side?

Here you've lost me. What is "big crissing"? if you do not mind me asking.

You trimmed it with your own hand. Didn’t you make a candy of it? I can’t believe!

Well if you want to put it this way…
Just cupla remarks:
1. If you bother to count my bedrooms, bother to count them correctly and do not lose zeros in a final result, please
2. If you mention swimming pools and backyards why do you omit my golf fields, hunting grounds, coke plantations and hangars full of space shuttles? It’s offensive for my skills measuring.
3. Don’t place my posh mansions in the centre of big cities. Back yard with swimming pool in the centre of London sounds ridiculous and offensive for common sense. Even if it’s a swimming pool with heating system. Life in the centre of any big city is a nightmare. You may point to dwellers of Buckingham palace of course but that’s the price they have to pay for all the crimes of monarchy.

IrishRover wrote:yeah, theres everythoing.. oif ye can affoird oit..

You seriously hint at impossibility to afford coffee and fags?
BTW! It reminds me about my original question: do you smoke at home? (when you can afford a fag)

Oirish: without wading through 112 pages, can you explain what your situation is? I thought you were in prison somehow? Or is that a figure of speech, meaning "Serbia"? And you're due to be sent off for military service and are refusing? Or will refuse?

I can't be reading this forum every day and I must have missed something some months or years back that might explain it. Thanks.

Oiroish-English Dictionary (Doictoioinary)

jaoil = Serbia
proisoiner = Oiroish
cell = Oirish’s own flat somewhere in the Serbian capital
to loive behoind bars = to live in Serbia
to be bound by chaoins = to have to apply for a visa in order to travel to Ireland
cruel moiloitary servoice = nine months of civilian service

Hope this helps...

Why? No one adresses your "jokes" (which don´t look too funny, nor smart to me) in such way.

Besides, until few years ago, we had this civil service (or going into army) too. It´s not that uncommon, really.

Zuzuana, thanks, that makes much more sense now. I thought he was literally in prison (not to diminish his own perception of things) and often wondered what kind of posh Serbian jail gave such regular Internet access! They never covered that when I was watching "Oz."

I didn't know that Serbia had mandatory civil service. Is this in place of or as a substitute for military service? Do women go in too?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_s ... ry_service
(Though this is a list of countries with mandatory military service, not specifically a civil requirement.)

I found it interesting that, according to this list, Serbia has a 9-month Civil requirement or a 6-month military requirement. IrishRover, I know that actual military service may be anathema for various reasons (physically unable, personal belief, conscientious objector, etc), but have you considered the military option rather than the civil service? Three months faster is three months faster.

And when do you get to apply for your passport/visa? Do you have to complete the service, or do you get to start the process once you begin your service (i.e. can you start the gears of process turning while also fulfilling your service, or are you not permitted to start the application process until your service is complete)?

I didn't know there were so many countries that still had mandatory service. I thought Italy still did but it's not on the list.

Military service might be 3 months shorter I'd imagine civil service is easier. 3 months goes by fast. I guess it depends what they make you do for civil service though.

It depends, really. For example, people I know told me, in military service, they were mostly cleaning hallways and toillets...I knew two people who were on civil service and they both worked as...cleaners of hallways and toillets :-)
