New biography by Australian artist/musician Reg Mombassa (Mental as Anything http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSGtg26- ... re=related) is about to be released wih loads of his fabulously original artwork. Here is a review of it from HarperCollins:

The Mind and Times of Reg Mombassa Slipcased Edition By Murray Waldren
Christopher O′Doherty, aka Reg Mombassa, has infiltrated our culture for more than thirty years with a unique, laconic view of our world ... and of his.
His wit, sense of mischief and larrikin energy resonated in the songs and performances of one of Australia′s most beloved bands, Mental As Anything.
His eye for the absurd and his unapologetic idealism captured another generation or three with his irreverent, frequently macabre and always distinctive designs for the original Mambo label.
Yet long before he became a Mental or transformed shirts into collector′s items, Mombassa was first and foremost an artist. From his idiosyncratic pop art to the delicately realised fine art landscapes and images that celebrate and elevate the suburban, his artworks are sought by collectors around the world.
Who else could stage the biggest one-man art show in history at the Sydney Olympics? Who else could have Elvis Costello producing his records, or Johnny Rotten and Crowded House seeking his record cover designs?
But there is much more to Reg Mombassa, as fellow New Zealand-born writer and painter Murray Waldren shows in this illuminated journey, Illustrated with over 300 artworks, photographs, posters and band memorabilia,
This superb Limited Edition, illustrated, signed and numbered by Reg, and containing a catalogue of his favourite paintings, is a must-have for fans.

Yes I see what you mean OIrish. Reg Mombassa was just last week announced as one of the finalists of the Dobell Drawing Prize, the most respected award for drawing in Australia, as was an aquaintance of mine, artist Greg Hansell http://mosman-daily.whereilive.com.au/l ... t-for-art/

The one I liked was of one man painting a portrait of another, neither seemingly pleased.

I was reading about the 2013 release of Big Eyes starring Reese Witherspoon  and Ryan Reynolds(?) .

The story of Margaret and Walter Keane is hysterical and I can picture a whole Jeremy Irons in Reversal Of Fortune campy vibe.

Reynolds is no Jeremy Irons.
He gonna fuck up this movie.

Not entirely out of the question sans said paintings.

I'd never heard of that superstition before. I remember finding a set of the mass produced Keane pictures in the Santa Cruz Salvation Army, but didn't want to schlep them on a plane and wanted to spend the forty bucks at the pub. El Stupido.

Was just reading about Hitler's love of chimney sweeps yesterday, in an article about a White House chimney sweep.

“It’s amazing, the people you meet being a chimney sweep,” Schmittinger says with a laugh. “He met Adolf Hitler. I met George W. Bush.”

I love, love, love his series Lost Vegas. Especially the one of the lady with the two cases of beer and the landscape one. The Super Heroes series reminds me of a great story I read in the Los Angeles Times about people who portray characters at Grauman's, which I haven't been able to find since. About their transient lives, yadda, yadda. His State Of The Union is interesting, I love the Domino's one.

Freeway Close, Nightscapes and Echo Park are awesome too.

These four I like, though I must say there are at least two of his paintings that I hate more than life itself. 8)
