I didn't realize that it's Basquiat in the
Blondie "Rapture" video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHCdS7O248gI liked
Basquiat despite how sad it is. Thought they did an amazing job portraying his Mother creatively and kindly.
"Summer in Siam" being used for the credits didn't hurt either. I think that's where they used it. It takes a bit of time to get over the difference in appearance of artist and actor but after a while suspension of disbelief occurs.
Wow. It's "
Fairytale" right at the start. So much for accurate memory.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3uqhDDVrUYDidn't know Basquiat had the highest selling American painting on record either.
Oh that Blondie video was fun to see. Have you seen Downtown 81? They're also both in that movie, and it's fun, too. It follows Basquiat around and ends with this:
"Finally he happens upon a bag lady (Debbie Harry) who turns into a princess when he kisses her. As a reward, she gives him a stack of cash."
It was unavailable for a while, but I just noticed it's on DVD for only $4.99 now on Amazon! Possibly the best 5 bucks you'll ever spend.
And it figures that it's always art by dead artists who can't benefit that sells for the highest. The "fine art" market is such a scam and it's basically just another way for rich people to pass their money back and forth and keep it amongst themselves.
Anyway, I liked the Basquiat movie, too, and I didn't remember Fairytale in New York being used at the start, either. I thought Summer in Siam was used for the credits, too, so I looked it up and weird, it's used in this scene of the movie:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pQoGX7ah5QI haven't listened to Summer in Siam in a long while, and I didn't remember Shane sounding quite so wasted on it, even though I know he sounded plastered for most of Hell's Ditch.
