5.John Lennon. (The Beatles his solo stuff was good)
4.Liam Gallagher.(Oasis)
3.Chris Martin.(Coldplay)
2.Noel Gallagher.(Oasis)
1.Of Course good old Shaneo. (The Pogues, The Popes, The Nips.....few others)

Hey I agree on three of those: Shane, John Lennon and Chris Martin but I also think that Bono is great and Damien Rice writes beautiful lyrics.

I think you are all forgetting Nick Cave and Tom Waits! Manu Chao is one of the greatest songwriters ever aswell, along with Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly and all the others that have already been mentioned. Well, all the others, excluding the Oasis brothers, Chris Martin and John Lennon.

Almost forgot Christy Moore, Ewan MacColl and Davie Wiseman. 8)

My favourite song writers are

1. Shane MacGowan- of course!
2. Lou Reed- 'Heroin', need I say more!
3. Richard Thompson- very underated I.M.O
4. Christy Moore- Great songs and a great voice!
5. Joe Strummer- Legend!

I'm sure that there are more but I'm just too tired to remember! :lol:
