Brixton 08

Post Fri Dec 19, 2008 4:04 pm

Thought I'd make a thread for this seeing as there wasn't one going.

I caught Spider's tray last night and gave it to MissWalshy as a birthday present. My birthday is on the 5th Jan so I'm hoping she'll give it back for that ;)

I thought that Shane was more tired and emotional than I have seen him perform in recent years but the band showed how tight they can be in the way they coped - a great night.

Pretty much the same as elsewhere I think. Greenland Whale Fisheries was sung somewhere in the middle of the set. Shane had a lot of trouble remembering the verses though.

Good all around gig. Musically the band, arguably has never sounded better.

Took 6 people from work who had never seen them before. All enjoyed the show with two of them spending the entire set down the front with me having a good jump about. One of them saw Manu Chao at the Forum the previous night so he's pretty sore all over from non stop dancing.

That's cos he was still singing "Cotton Fields", we think.

Hugely enjoyable last night (Fri 19th).

Shane was immaculate, the rest of the band on top form, and the (rather mature) audience well up for it.

Did anyone catch what Spider said that won a big round of applause, just before he introduced Ella Finer?

Friday 19th was unbelievably good. Does anyone have an accurate setlist?

Last night was amazing. The whole thing was bang on, MacGowan was superb and the most 'with it' I've ever seen.

Hats off to the whole band, the crowd, everyone...I had 7 mates with me who had never heard much of them apart from FONY, and they all fucking loved it and have been converted.

Oh, and if anyone has my shoes and phone that'd be fantastic :D

What is it with Pogues fans and shoes, it is like a convention of irate Iraqi journalists

Setlist was same as Belfast, apart from Poor Paddy works on the railway instead of Star of County Down in second encore:

Also, Greenland Whale Fisheries was in the main set - must have been a bonus, can't see what it replaced :D

I think last night was probably the best I have ever seen the Pogues perform. I was at Thursday as well and the difference between the two nights was huge. Shane was on top form last night and the whole band seemed to really be enjoying themselves. What a top night. Nice to see FONY dedicated to Kirsty's mum who was in the audience.

If tonight is half as good and you are going, then you will be in for a treat!!!!! Happy Christmas everyone!!!!!!

Boys From The County Hell? That wasn't played last night was it? Also, was Kitty definitely played? The alcohol has distorted my memory somewhat.
