I had a fucking great evening, although the RDS is a shitty place for a concert like this i think.
You weren't even allowed to take your beer in :( :( .
Was standing in the pit and loved every minute of it!!! (yes i was early!!)
Yeah ok some misses here and there, but it was really worthwhile travelling from holland for this.
Been to the aftershow in Eamonns too, Brilliant!!!

Anyway, i'll definitley be back next year.

Happy Christmas your arse and i do hope its not our last.

Cheers!!!

I actually thought that it was not a bad decision to keep the bar seperate, although perhaps at the back of the main hall would have been better as the sound was shit in the bar area. I've read some of the reviews of the Belfast gig and from what I seen on the night their was pleny of stuff and liquid being thrown around, I reckon it would have been 10times worse had people been allowed to keep their beer.

I also will deffo return next year or maybe even hit one of the UK gigs, they seem to be better venues, The Barrowlands in my opinion is the best venues I've ever been in.

Agree with comments about the poorly run venue. My friend and I actually had no idea what the wristbands were for until I just read this thread. We got in early as I was determined to see Urban Voodoo Machine (very glad to have made the effort, they didn't disappoint). Sounds as though it might actually have been "safer" going into the pit, if only we'd known. We were among the "oldies" (only in our early 40s, but feeling about 90 compared to much of the young and "energetic" crowd) trying to find a relatively quiet spot to stand and looking longingly to the balcony that was only accessible to those with VIP passes. We certainly weren't expecting the whole place to be a giant mosh pit.

Still, we had a brilliant time as we managed to avoid the worst of the crowd. Anywhere we stood it was mainly people having fun, even if often a bit more energetic than we had the energy for, especially myself having just flown in from London after 4 solid days of being a tourist and 2 of the Brixton gigs (where the seats were a godsend...as was the area up top where you could go to stand up and dance if you wished). After travelling over for gigs last year and this year, I think I've now begun a personal tradition to travel over from the US for the Christmas tour. It's nice to see them in the US, but the crowds in the UK and Ireland are the best. My only request to the band is to maybe sell tickets for the balcony at RDS next time? Or have an "oldies" pit area for those of us who don't want to dodge flying bodies all night. :)

I've worn a Celtic jersey when going to see the Pogues for the last 25 years. Who the fuck are you to call me a scumbag?

It seems like a reasonable enough request. I shall investigate whether there is a reason for the lack of seating alternatives.

I DID NOT CALL YOU A SCUMBAG, please re-read the above quote, I said that sumbags happen to wear celtic jerseys not all Celtic Jersey wearers are scumbags, (i.e. not everyone who wears a jersey is a scumbag.)

I apologize for giving you the wrong impression however if you read the rest of the thread you would see that I obviously do not think that all Celtic fans are scumbags

Apology accepted. As you say, if I'd read the rest of the thread before responding, I wouldn't have got so annoyed; for which I apologise. The world would be a dull place though if everyone read to the end of a thread before adding to it!

Your dead right. Standing in Brixton Academy can't be beat. I always travel to at least one gig in the uk (Brixton, Glasgow or last two years Belfast). And i'd advise anyone travelling from abroard to avoid Dublin Pogues gigs. I'm sorry to say this, but it's fact. I only go because it's just 1 and 1/2 hrs from home.

Having said that, here is my video of "Metropolis" from the RDS. The brass section made this tune(for me) the highlight of the tour.

MMmm now can anyone explain to me what is wrong with going to Dublin for a gig?
Are there more scumbags there? And would you say there are none in London or Manchester or where ever?
I had no problems what so ever in Dublin.
Was it because i was lucky and stood in the pit??
Well i am really curious, that's why i ask.
Actually i am really fond of Ireland and Dublin, been there several times and always loved it, never had any problems.
I am planning going to London for next year shows, but thats more because of the stupid venue.
So tell me please!!

:)

Read the whole thread, or my previous posts about the venue. All my problem is with the venue's organisation. If you are travelling from far flung shores, go somewhere where they know how to run a gig.

I really enjoyed the Dublin Gig but as it was my first Pogues Gig I have nothing to compare it against, it could have been better run, by promoters, security and the actual venue. I work in facilities and logistics and i could have done a better job with some of the planning. I might try Brixton next year but like the above boardie my girlfriend lives 5 min walk from RDS so it was handy.

Agreed, it was still an excellent night.

No setlist, I was too drunk/high (on life) to remember, I think it was much the same as the others (Belfast then check the changes for Manchester and Brixton), with Fairytale moved to the middle of 2nd. Encore.
