The show was sensational otherwise....!!!

Totally agree, find a spot and watch. I was two from the front and people were still trying to get by - silly rabbits, elbows are for cutters. Otherwise I enjoy the masses because a calm Pogues show just don't seem right.

Roseland is far larger than the Nokia Theatre. I think Roseland holds something like 3300 and Nokia holds 2100.

Roseland could probably fit even more if they went back to the old stage (now the elevated seating/bar area on the side). Removing the stage setup as it is now would free at least 500 more standing-room spots.

Beacon Theater holds 2800.

MSG would be a good idea, either a couple nights at the Theater (5600 capacity) or one night in the arena (20,000) capacity. Although at three sellout nights at Roseland (9900 total tickets), it wouldn't make sense to half-fill the Garden for one night (not that they couldn't fill it, of course.

I was really delighted you made it after all. Had a great time with you and KathleenMitAK. Well ... the parts that I can recall. It all gets a bit fuzzy toward the end. I woke up the following morning still inebriated. Not nearly as much fun as that sounds.

Fantastic to have met all of you on Sunday night though - Lesh, Canadian-Steve, KMitK, Rich, IrishRose, IrishRoseDaughter (whom I have decided to call Rosebud, for no good reason), and everyone whose names I've forgotten. You're all spiffy folk, and I'm glad to know you.

I know Roseland is big but I think Nokia is a lot better and you can see the band for the most part. I love the stadium seating. If size of the venue is an issue, you can just put up another date haha.

Dzm...........................Rosebud??..........hmmm i will be sure to pass it on?? :D

it was a blast meeting with you and so many others, it made both concerts so much more fulfilling, if that makes any sense, i'am also having one hell of a time trying to recall who was who and how many names and people i met, there was that trooper and his girl, somehow they got disconnected a couple of times as i helped chuck him over to the security people at least once and i know he passed by my head on another occasion as well??.......moshing hehehehe....what a hoot??..........poor Kathleen, if it wasn't for her husband, one of them bodies may have landed on top off her, sailed right over her head??...........yeesh and we were not even in the middle of it, we were all located between Philip and Terry, off to the left side of the stage, but it all just added up to more fun for all??

singing word for word, and arm and arm with so many people from where ever??....................how can one even come close to describing this, it was a grand event that is for certain??

Irishrose

p.s. any others recall who was who??......................LOL the Jamesons went down just fine, and heres another one to all those i tipped with in the pit??

I swear to God, I was only trying to ask Shane where he was drinking on St Patricks Day, not why.

great photos DZM! did you take pictures of kate nash on the side of the stage or in the VIP area? I'm sure if I tried to take pictures when she came out, I would have gotten yelled at by security haha.

Stage left, by the monitors board.

On Sunday Security and I were still figuring out what our limits were and weren't.

Irish Eyes Are Crying
(a fan review):
<…>Then it was time for The Pogues. My wife and I had seen them when they toured the States two years ago, our first chance to see them since they let Shane MacGowan back in the band, and they were great. We had first seen The Pogues about 19 years ago (I can't believe I'm writing that) so we have been fans for a long time. Shane could barely stand up that night in Boston two years before, but he could still sing the shit out of the songs. It was really a sight to behold since he probably should have died from alcohol poisoning many years ago. The crowd was pretty obnoxious that night, but I wrote it off as a Boston thing since most people that live there suck.

It wasn't just a Boston thing, and alcohol-ravaged Shane can no longer sing the shit out of the songs.

The crowd at Roseland was awful. Sometime between when the Pogues broke up to when they got back together they picked up a huge asshole frat boy-type contingent of fans. There were so many backward caps on heads that night I lost track. And they were there more to get drunk than they were to listen to a band. Most everyone was double-fisting beers all night, this being a way to do something Irish for St. Patrick's Day - The Pogues and alcohol. The Roseland was packed with drunk pricks and we couldn't really get away from them. They oversell Roseland so much that the crowd was still packed tight even at the very back.

Don't get me wrong, I have done my fair share of drinking too much at shows. But it getting shitfaced was never my goal. It happens because I forget to pace myself. This crowd was made up of people that were obviously trying to get as drunk as they could as fast as they could.

I just don't remember this from back in the original days of The Pogues. These types of guys were the ones who never heard of them back then. This was such an drunken, testosterone-laden, mosh-pit loving crowd that I felt like I was at a Megadeath show. This was so annoying and it has to be somebody's fault.

I blame the Dropkick Murphys.

This dickhead fan base was created by the likes of Pogues-wannabe bands like the Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly. They introduced their idiot fan base to their weak-ass version of the kind of Celtic rock The Pogues introduced to the world, and now those fans fill up the shows and fall or sway drunkenly on top of my poor wife.

Well it helps The Pogues make a bunch of money I guess. And they don't have to actually be any good anymore to thrill the moron masses that now make up their crowds. They are just phoning it in. The set list from night to night on this tour has stayed exactly the same and the songs just sound tired. They sound more like a band trying to sound like The Pogues than the actual Pogues themselves. At this point a Pogues cover band would probably be better.
<…>
It is really a shame to see a band I really love become something so weak and pedestrian.

But I guess as long as the drunken fools will still dance and mosh along in their green hats at $55 a ticket, I doubt The Pogues give a shit anymore.
