RDS - 23 Dec 2007

Post Mon Dec 24, 2007 8:55 am

fantastic show in Dublin last night. Shane in great form. totally messed up fall from grace with god but this had nothing to do with Shane. i think j ames hit the first bum note then the rest of the song fell apart. should have started it again. but from then on it was onwards and upwards. highlights were brown eyes, dirty old town, sick bed and a Ramonic body of an american. anyone go to the voodoo after.
special thanks to Mr C.
2 more things. sinead sang brilliantly on fairytale.
the RDS is a shite venue

That was animal! Best set-list ever. You're right though skin its a shockin venue. That bar felt more like a garden centre. And the pit was bigger than the rest of the hall.

Greenland Whale Fisheries live is somethin else.

I thought it was pure brilliant, though I couldn't understand a word Shane was sayin. I almost floored it when Sinead O' Connor went on stage!

Just arrived home after a memorable weekend in Ireland, attending the gigs in Belfast and Dublin with Mick Molloy and two other Dutch guys, throwing in some sightseeing on our way there and back (and a few pints).
Truly enjoyed ourselves, especially as we got meet with some other Pogues fans in pubs prior to the gigs and as we got to shake hands with James and Terry.

Belfast was THE NIGHT, I'd say, a happier crowd than in Dublin for some reason. On the way back the cab-driver started talking about how is brother died in the troubles, which topped off an already great day, which had started by taking a good look around at Guinness and some serious sight-seeing around Carlingford, where the sun even came out, and a look around at the murals in Belfast.

Pre gig in Dublin at O'Donoghues was great because it was not too crowded and because there was a traditional session going on.

Support in Belfast was a poor choice, which they themselves seemed to realise too.
Blood Or Whiskey next day were spot on, pitty though that they didn't play my personal favourite (Death Watch).

Was interesting to watch Victoria watch Shane and Sinead dance (thanks for drawing my attention to that, Mick!)

It was very inconvenient that, on both nights, there was no wardrobe. It is very warm in the moshpit when you're dressed up to face a cold winter evening!! Is this typically Irish?
Very strange also that in Dublin it was not permitted to drink in the auditorium.
Great though that there was no smoking. Not even by Shane!

ANYHOW, thanx Pogues for a great pre-Christmas weekend,
best wishes, especially to Mr Philip Chevron!!

Well the sound was better but Shane wasn;'t thdta good as in Belfast.

Also I have to say that there were a lot of eejits in the crowd who really did not want to move one bit from their place. If you wanted to dance or jump around there woulkd be someone who'd ask you to jump to the other side

And two other differences are that Dubliners use their elbows much more and that they really enjoy their cameras on their phones

Good night anyway :D

Never played a bum note in my life that I didn't own up to straight away. But I'm not owning up to that one, what one? Not one. (Broad Majestic Shannon, however, you're not thinking of that are you? Because i got all distracted about what time I was going to have to get up the following morning and ended up bereaving myself of the way it goes.) But I'm sorry, it was the third night in a row Shane has forgotten the length of the break in IISFFGWG and that's what fucked it up.

You're right, RDS is a shit venue, but they're busy with making the Point Village or some damn boomtown euro-investment-friendly thing and all the cranes have migrated over there I suppose.

I wonder did anyone get a video of Mr Fearnley running across the front of the stage during Repeal. Classic pogues moment. Btw lads well done on Greenland Whale Fisheries and Dark streets of london, they were amazing... Well worthy of being included in the set.
I love it when a plan comes together.

The artist formerly known as Guest.

James left Dublin at 7am yesterday, the better to get home to LA before Santa got there.

Awwww man... why couldn't we have Sinead in Manchester? That's no disrespect to Ella, who did a very fine job indeed, yet again... but SINEAD... well that would have been feckin' marvellous...
