An absolutely brilliant gig, as good as i've seen, this is a great venue with shit facilities, there is something very special about seeing the Pogues at this time of year, that pre gig atmosphere in the pub is so great, though Scruffys was jam packed and i never got to meet up with any forum members, i spied Andy P Davies across the room but never got over to say hello and as always at every gig since the re-union down the front was the "King", we sang every word together with the singer Shane'O who was in excellent form bantering with the crowd in his own special way, he seemed to take a shine to a young girl on the barrier whom he gave his tin tray and a half drunk bottle of Bombay Saphire (lucky Cow !)
This is a rough set-list
Streams
Fall from Grace
Shannon
Brown Eyes
Dark Streets
Tuesday
Sayonara
Siam
Sunny Street
Laws
Body 1000s
County Hell
Dirty Old
Greenland
Bottle of Smoke
Sickbed

Encore
Trains
Rainy Night
Sally
Star
Fony
Fiesta
But yer people if they play here again- ,GO- This is the best place to see them and i've seen them all over the place
And a mention for the 4 Romanian lads i met at the end - great lads who made the journey missed the Nottingham gig, one had a broken hand from a drunken night and they were flying home from Liverpool- Happy Xmas to you again .
On the merchandise front, there is a nice 25 years Poster and mug, some smart tees and hoodies, a 25 years scarf, hat , whiskey flask.
All in all a very special gig missing only Phil Chevron, its just not the same without you Phil
Thanks to the band for a great night
Belfast next for me but Christmas has already come early as far I'm concerned 8) 8)

Can only second what Rum said, utterly superb gig. Best atmosphere i've ever been in at at Pogues gig, i thought Brixton last year would take some beating but take a bow Birmingham 2007.

I wholeheartedly concur with Rum! Sorry we missed you in Scruffys, mate. What a FANTASTIC gig - it excited me to the extent that I was forced to desist from extricating myself from my quality togs at front of house for most of the gig.
Shane was ebullient - rather like a wild young stallion, whilst the band were fabulous and exceedingly musically erudite. The venue was also terrific and the performance and presentation was spot on - can you guess that I enjoyed it?
It was excellent to meet WWFC Pogue and Mark, Catolina... indeed many thanks to all those who helped me make it through the night.
Laters,
Andus x

the academy is without doubt the best pogues venue there is .best performance ive seen for ten years ,shane was the superstar we know he is ,he never missed a word ,and boomed the songs .this was the very best of the pogues without a doubt.scruffy murphys was a disgrace ,the pub where we was 'supposed to meet ?]i was there at 1.45 till 7.30 and the only thing you could hear was heavy metal booming out ,despite frantic pleading to put some pogues it carried on .the stupid twat who owns it needs to get his act in order [play the music whats on at the academy on that night]you would have got us more pissed =more cash in your till .overall delighted with the day ,although carrying a groin full of pain .met up with apd ,katalina off this forum ,and got asked to pose for piccies off some delightful looking young girls .long may it continue

remind me why the lame wizzard song doesnt go "i wish it could be about a week before chirstmas everyday"??? best night of my life! and iv got some fairly extensive bruising as a momento, but a place right against the barrier was worth it! Shane was absolute class as were the band and im considering trying to marry Spider Stacey's hat! wasa pretty darn impressed with the Holloways too... oh sod it, i could be here all night praising the Pogues, ill just say the best band in the world were amazing and be done with it!!! thanks to all the folks who were so lovely to me, who needs to bother with the first 11 months of 2008??? x

the birmingham gig

I have to agree, these are the venues i've seen them in since the re-union of 2001
Birmingham carling academy - shit for getting a drink but top atmosphere
Glasgow Carling academy - Shit for getting a drink and queues for the toilet - great atmosphere
London Brixton Academy-Not great for a drink, bit bigger than Brum - Top Atmosphere, The Pogues own Backyard - a must do venue if you're serious about the band
Birmingham NIA and Nottingham Arena and Dublin Point - Big arena's better for a drink and a piss ( except Dublin which is unbelievably bad for both and as such gets my vote as the worst venue of those i've been to ) and for me these places lose a bit on the atmosphere
New York Nokia Theatre - What a top top venue, fantastic facilities, the best public bogs i've ever been in !, superb bars and a lovely size, maybe cause i was in another country on Paddys day made it better, i don't know but this was a great gig and facility wise easily the best venue i've seen the band in and it was a special atmosphere, paddys day, first New York gig for 15 years
Belfast Nugent Hall / Queens Hall- I'll let you know when i get back but I'm expecting a big atmosphere here
Places i've not yet seen them include Manchester which would appeal more if it was a smaller venue
And of course back in the day when i was but a young carefree soul, many great memories....................
