March 2008: Opening Acts

Post Mon Dec 10, 2007 11:09 pm

Thought I'd get out in front of this one. This is the thread where we speculate, salivate, and beg for our favorite Pogues opening acts. I'll start: Gee, wouldn't it be great to see Filthy Thieving Bastards and The Tossers return as openers on teh East Coast (where I believe FTB have never played)?!

==--== EDIT ==--==

March 5 Chicago, IL Riviera - Ike Reilly
March 6 Chicago, IL Riviera - Ike Reilly

March 9 Washington, DC 9:30 Club - Urban Voodoo Machine
March 10 Washington, DC 9:30 Club - Urban Voodoo Machine

March 12 Baltimore, MD Rams Head - The Pietasters

March 13 Philadelphia, PA Electric Factory – Marseilles Figs

March 15 New York, NY Roseland – Marseilles Figs, William Elliot Whitmore
March 16 New York, NY Roseland – Billy Bragg, William Elliot Whitmore
March 17 New York, NY Rosleand Ballroom – Ollin, William Elliot Whitmore

March 19 Boston, MA Orpheum – Gimme Danger
March 20 Boston, MA Orpheum – Gimme Danger
What kind of fuckery is this?

Maybe Flogging Molly should open up for the Pogues, to prove to Dave King who makes the better music between the two. Since Dave King and Flogging Molly as of recently say their not influenced by The Pogues. SIGH!!!

I thought they were influenced by crappy 80's heavy metal hair bands like Fastway.

The Aggrolites would be a great opener too, great suggestion!

I haven't seen the Tossers since that opened for Shane & the Popes a few years ago in Chicago. It would be a blast to see two of my favorites in one night. But with almost everyone on the forum raving about William Elliot Whitmore, it would be nice to see just what the hype is all about.

the pietasters
the toasters

I don't recall reading any posts about these two bands. I used to go to Toasters shows every three or four months back in the early 90s when they came through Baltimore in their relentless touring up and down the New England and Mid Atlantic states. I don't think I'd want either to open for the Pogues, though.

anyway, I'd much rather speculate about who'll be opening for them on the numerous gigs of next summer's European tour ...
