So can we expect a local dress-up in London as well? United Colours of Brixton? riot gear? mother-or-pearl buttons? Pleeeease.

Or the Christmas trees back would be nice too.

One member of the band really really hates the Christmas trees, which is why, after a couple of seasons, they were discarded.

The Pogues killed last night

Post Fri Nov 02, 2007 3:55 pm

The Pogues were on fire last night, bringing out some old chestnuts like "Kitty" and "Star of the county Down". Fantastic show with the band sounding tighter then a frogs ass and Shane in great voice. I was in the pit and having a great time. It didn't seem like your average L.A. fans last night. People were there to have fun and we sure did. Thanks Pogues for a special evening.

Wiltern 11/1

Great show on Thursday night.. Crowd was more energized, band was fantastic, Shane in great form. A+++

Ollin tore the place up. Unbelievable...Crowd diving at the end of Fiesta, much to the surprise of security.. Those guys are a party.

Thanks to all involved, and all who attended, for a great night..

Interesting question, Nate. The hammer & sickle thread is here (and my attitude to the symbol is still the same) but this seems to be the first time the abomination is accompanied with words. ("Nell!" "Hackney!") Any idea about the meaning?

¡You can bet! Because one exclamation / question mark is terribly insufficient. ¿Isn't it? :) (But that does not explain the mystery of Nell Hackney...)

well, i really haven't got any idea but it think it's worth noting that it isn't simply "Nell!" and "Hackney!" but "¡NELL!" "$¡HACKNEY!"

maybe the inverted exclamation marks are somehow connected to the mariachi theme?

and the dollar sign makes a sort of counterpoint to the hammer & sickle.

who knows? did these show up at earlier gigs on this tour?

edit: i see i have cross posted with both of you

It is really written like that in Spanish - inverted exclamation / question mark in the beginning of a sentence, usual one at the end.

yeah yeah, but do we have pictures from earlier gigs showing the new words or did they make a first appearance the same night the pogues adopted the mariachi costumes?
