Tonight's set was different from last night. Here it is to the best of my ability:

If I Should Fall From Grace With God
Streams Of Whiskey
The Broad Majestic Shannon
Turkish Song Of The Damned
Young Ned Of The Hill
A Pair Of Brown Eyes
Boys From The County Hell
Tuesday Morning
Kitty
Sayonara
Greenland Whale Fisheries
Repeal Of The Licensing Laws
Sunny Side Of The Street
The Body Of An American
Old Main Drag
Dirty Old Town
Bottle Of Smoke
Sickbed Of Cuchulainn

Sally Maclennane
Poor Paddy
Irish Rover

Star Of The County Down
Rainy Night In Soho
Fiesta

Great Show, Great Memories.
Sounds right to me. They didn't play "Old Main Drag" last night (21st) did they?

Nope.

They switched the order of the first 2 songs.

Replaced Lullaby with Old Main Drag (I think). Now I am trying to remember if Lullaby or Greenland was dropped. I am blaming it on more Guiness than I originally planned...

Also, switched the middle songs from each encore. Poor Paddy and Rainy Night In Soho.

Also featured was the super short version of If I Should Fall and then the super long dance-mix version of Turkish Song.

Which is to say that there was some confusion about which verses had already been used, and adjustments were made on the fly.

They started with If I Should Fall... :?

I would have been really surprised if I´d been there, and thought WTF aren´t they going to play Streams Of Whiskey? Anyway, it´s always good with something new and I hope they surprise us even more for the Christmas gigs.

Sunday and Monday were fantastic. The Filmore is such a great venue. Shane miscued a couple times but nothing so major that would throw a wrench in things. It was really cool talking with all the folks around me and everyone was super cool, the people in the crowd next to me, the waitresses, the security dudes upfront, and cheers DzM

Fillmore #3?

Post Wed Oct 24, 2007 6:09 pm

How was Tuesday Night, 3rd night, at the Fillmore?

Unfotunately, I had to eat my ticket and stay home because my 6 month old has a very bad cold. And, I'm pretty knackered from the first two nights.

Hopefully, I can summon up the energy and make it across the Bay Bridge for tonight's show.

It's hard to do 4 nights in a row as a fan, almost in his 40s, with a job, and with an infant at home....

I can't imagine what it must be like for the band... who are traveling from one hotel and venue to another and who are all slightly older.

POGUES- Thanks so much for another fabulous run of shows!!! And thanks for staying behind to say hi to me and the wife again. We caught all 4 Nokias a couple of years back, all 4 last year Fillmores, and Chicago last Spring. (among countless others dating WAY back). With the exception of Phil's absence (and "White City"), and some technical glitches, Fillmore #1 was one of the best of the lot.

I hope to see you all tonight.

Fillmore 1st and 2nd

Post Wed Oct 24, 2007 8:00 pm

Well back in South Dakota so I thought I would post a few memories of the shows. Honestly had a little more to drink then I should have so my memory is a little hazy.

Sunday night we were down on the floor. There was an older guy standing slightly in front of me, he was a foot taller and a hundred pounds heavier, so I asked him if he was planning to mosh. Thankfully he indicated “No, but I have been known to pogo”. The sound was great from this vantage point. You could feel the wooden floor sway up and down during the show. The White Rabbits were enjoyable. They covered Maggie’s Farm. I saw a lot of drinks flying through the air and my feet felt really stuck to the floor for most of the night. Shane is like expensive smelly cheese (his voice gets better with age) and the rest of the band as always sounded great. Many times during the show I thought of Philip and watched his stand in James. James seemed really focused on what he was playing with his head down most of the time. It really made me appreciate how Philip makes his job look easier then it is (I recall Joe Strummer making the same claim somewhere). My wife and I held each other in our arms during Broad Majestic Shannon and Rainy Night in Soho. The other 3 in our group joined in at one point for a group hug/sway/dance. Someone was shouting for Fiesta after the first 3 songs and I kept thinking no we don’t want to hear that, it would mean the show is almost over. Shane singing Kitty really left an impression on me this night. I kept having flashes of seeing his mother singing this on video.

Monday night we got in line before the doors opened and grabbed a table upstairs on the rail (booth #7). Great vantage point of the stage and crowd from there. Also, the 10 crystal chandeliers hanging over the crowd added to my fond memories of the Fillmore. Always nice to get another perspective of the show however the sound quality did not seem as good as it was on the floor the night before. I think Filthy Thieving Bastards really struggled with their sound board as the vocals seemed really muted from where we sat. The crowd seemed a little rowdier than the previous night. A lot of energy coming from the mosh pit. The show started with James playing Streams of Whiskey while the rest of the band went into If I Should Fall With Grace From God. I am not sure if James appreciated me busting his chops after the show about it but as his lovely wife pointed out it really just added another fond memory of the night. I could not agree with her more. Shane did not appear to be in as good of form as the previous night. He lost his way many times though the show, especially during Turkish Song of the Damned. It was great to hear Old Main Drag with both Terry and James on mandolin (this is becoming one of my favorite instruments). After Fiesta was done Shane tossed his beer tray into the crowd then went over and grabbed Spider’s tray which he tossed toward the back of the mosh pit. Bodies toppled into a pile then the pile surged before someone came away with his prize. I saw another guy get up grabbing his skull as if it had hit the floor, been kicked or stepped on.

I missed hearing White City because I love Shane’s little dance and Philip was dearly missed by all. Of all the 2006-2007 shows I saw in Boston, Vegas, Chicago and San Fran. I think the Fillmore shows are my fondest memories. I still have Poor Paddy running through my head 24/7.

2) Any opening acts?

A performer will take the stage at ~8:00. His name is William Elliott Whitmore. Do yourself a favor and catch his set.

A band (more than one person) will take the stage sometime after 9:00. You should be sure to catch their set too. Highly recommended.

Will Shane make it to the shows?
Why do the Pogues cost so much?
Will they play Fairytale?

Who?

They hate you.
Will they play Fairytale?

Only if they can find a volunteer from the audience to perform the other half of the duet.

There is one person that uses it sporadically. I'm sure he wouldn't mind sharing it.
