Fillmore 2007 October 21,22,23,24

Post Mon Oct 22, 2007 8:26 am

Just got back from the first Fillmore show. It was brillant. My sister was standing outside having a smoke when Shane pulled up in an old beat up Volvo. Not who she was expecting to pop out of that vehicle. To the best of my memory the set list was the same as that posted for the Seatlle shows. Shane lost his way in a few spots but overall I thouht he sounded great. His timing on the symbol needs a little work however. Everyone else was in top form. Great to meet DzM and really enjoyed chatting about Joe Strummer with Darryl after the show. Thanks a million Philip. Really missed your presence. Feeling really tired now and must conserve energy for tomorrows show...

No "Fairytale" this time but "Star of the County Down" was a treat. How'd you get to meet Darryl after the show?

pre-show music

Post Mon Oct 22, 2007 4:32 pm

Before the Pogues came out on stage (and before they played that Straight to Hell by the Clash), an instrumental piece was played several times. I really liked it and was hoping someone on this forum could tell me the artist and name of the song.

Btw, last night was my first Pogues show and it was amazing. I will be back for more.

I wasn't paying a great deal of attention to the house music, but I did recognize at least one Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros track played. I don't think the music was exclusively JS&M though.

My Review - 10/21/07 Fillmore San Francisco

Post Mon Oct 22, 2007 5:15 pm

A few people have asked me "How was the show last night?" All I can say to them is, "Well, it was a Pogues show. The Pogues were on stage (except Mr. C of course). And they were playing Pogues tunes. How could it not be anything but an amazing show? It's like bad pizza. Even bad pizza is pretty damn good."

Last night was hardly bad pizza. Besides a few hiccups, I thought the show was phenomenal.

Highlights were:
- Shane coming out in his Mad Hatter's top hat complete with the 10/6 card on the side of the hat.
- Shane also walked on stage with a full bottle of something (not close enough to tell what it was but it looked like wine.)
- A lot of banter amongst the band. Then Spider and Shane would say something to the crowd but I'm not sure anyone could understand either of them. We all just laughed along.
- Great to hear Kitty and Greenland Whale Fisheries live.
- Again, a few hiccups, but I think Shane was in fine form last night. Out of the six times I've seen The Pogues, I think this is the first time I actually heard him say "Sean Dun na nGall" clearly. Maybe it was my own semi intoxication, but I swear I heard it.
- The crowd was into it. San Francisco loves The Pogues and I hope they can tell.
- Phil's stand-in James did a great job last night. Except for one time when he was having some guitar trouble before a song. Spider then says "He's the Brian Jones of the group. We're digging the swimming pool right now." Totally in bad taste, but very funny and it certainly made the kid get his guitar in order quickly.

Lowlights (not really low, more like disappointments):
- I missed Phil. Everytime I listen to 1000s, I remember it as I've seen it live which is a fantastically unique experience.
- No Phil dancing during Irish Rover. Again, to me it's hard to imagine a Pogues show without that little touch. (So in the end - Phil, get better soon. Can't wait to see you back on stage the next go round)
- No posters. As mentioned in another post, I'm not sure what the deal is either, but if the Fillmore has sold out by going LiveNation corporate, that sucks.

Great show. Can't wait to do it again tonight...and tomorrow night....and the next night.

Yeah I think it was "Shaktar Donetsk" off of Global a Go-go.

Great show. This was my first Pogues show as well, and it was worth every penny and more.

Loved the crowd. The 15 or so people in front of me in line all looked old enough to be my parents, but met some awesome people my age there too, not to mention a 10 year old kid a few spots back. Just goes to show what a broad appeal the Pogues have :D

Setlist is the same as the Seattle show's.

Excellent show again, I think I enjoyed it more than last night (although last night was spectacular as well). Filthy Thieving Bastards were awesome as expected. Shane fucked up a few times again but hey, it's Shane. The band does a great job keeping up with him. Of course it wasn't the same without Phil, we all miss you.

And DzM, were you the guy in front of the barrier taking pictures? I think I was right behind you, wearing a Filthy Thieving Bastards shirt.

Here are some mediocre photos I took (my camera is not good for these type of things). Album starts out with FTB:

"You must be logged in to do that."

None photos for we luddites with no MySpace account.

And yep - I was running around in front of the barrier snapping pictures. No idea yet if any of them are viewable, but we'll leave that mystery for tomorrow.

I'm saddened that I am not positive I know who you are/were. I _think_ you were over toward house-left, in front of where Philip normally stands. Am I right?

Sickbed Of Cuchulainn

Sally Maclennane
Poor Paddy
Irish Rover

Star Of The County Down
Rainy Night In Soho
Fiesta

Great Show, Great Memories.

Correct. Right in between Terry and the guitarist.

I'll upload those pictures to a photobucket account and then post the link. They're nothing special though so don't get too excited!
