set list

Post Tue Aug 14, 2007 8:37 am

hey guys,
despite the beers, I seem to remember them play SallyMacLennane as last song, before the encores that is

Anonymous wrote:It was absolute a brilliant night. Rainy Night In Soho has also been played yesterday and it was definetely the best live version I ever heard. You can hear every worth Shane was singing, absolutely stunning!

Also the compliments to the interim guitar player. He did really a good job. But the beautiful Thousands Are Sailing was really somehting missing in the setlist. Hope we can hear that at the end of the year. As we speak about it. Is there some information about the christmas gigs or when can we expect more information about it?

Post Tue Aug 14, 2007 5:03 pm

The Poques were great..it was a big fiesta. I'm glad i was there after 20 years waiting. last time I saw them in the 80's in Ghent (Vooruit) but Shane was so drunk that the band had to play without him. This time Shane made the show, thank you man!

greetings from Belgium

What a great show in Lokeren. I saw them last time in 1991 at Pukkelpop and now this one. I got tears in my eyes, seriously. So much has happenend in that 17 years on a personal level and the Pogues brought back all those sometimes beautiful, sometimes painful memories. Thanks guys! Hope I see you soon again in Belgium (or Holland).

I found this review in a Belgian newspaper. I'll try to translate it later, it's a bit too late now... It just says that it was the perfect headliner of a successful festival.

The Pogues sluiten feestelijk af in Lokeren

’Let’s go Pogues’, scandeerde iedereen het collectief goede moed toe. Cheers mate!

THX TO THE POGUES ! !

Post Thu Aug 16, 2007 11:12 pm

I saw the Pogues 3 times in Belgium.
Long time ago and last week at The Lokerse Feesten.

WOW ! The Pogues are back !
Thats why I want to thank Shane and alle others for coming back after all those years. And the show was GREAT. My voice is gone by all that singing. Everybody around me (also myself) know every word from every song. That means something ! The Pogues are a very very great band with great members and many fans. Thanx again for the great show and hopely we can do it over in the future.

Cheers,
MAX

Awesome setlist. Nice to see Kitty working its way in there.

I'm bummed out that Mr. MacGowan isn't taking over vocals on Thousands Are Sailing though. I know that's Mr. Chevron's song, as well it should be, and he should sing it, but in the absence of Mr. Chevron, I do not understand why it has to be outright removed from the setlist. It is an absolutely beautiful number, to an extent regardless of who sings it. And it's not like Mr. MacGowan didn't do a pretty smash-up job singing it on the album.

I'll be at the Wiltern shows regardless and am greatly looking forward to it.

Best wishes to Mr. Chevron, as well.

I found another review (in Dutch again, sorry...) Their opinion: "The band was great, Shane sucked."

Thank you for your good wishes.

I think Spider has mentioned elsewhere that "1000s r sailors" has not been "outright removed". My understanding is that it was rehearsed but not so solidly that it could withstand the chaos that led up to the Sweden show and it was not therefore risked for the gig. It's always been a tricky one to re-routine because I sing it in C and Shane does it 4 semitones below, all of which must be transposed for an already quite complex orchestration. I believe the intention is to return the song to active service in October, with Shaneo singing. He'll do it well, he's yearned to since 2001. Getting it back from him will be the hard part.
