Way out west: New time and stage!

Post Mon Aug 06, 2007 2:40 pm

The official W.O.W. homepage has just announced some changes to the friday night schedule. Pogues are now to play at 23.50 (instead of 18.20) at the slightly smaller Azalea-stage! That makes Pogues the last band of the evening...

Personally, I think this change is great! Hopefully we're in for one hell of a party! See you there!LV

Blimey, good line up with Pogues going on after Eagles of Death Metal and Primal Scream!

Yeah, the sound was awful. The Pogues were a bit unfocused and tired (apart from James, who was great, and Spider who was OK). No magic there. Shane got better after a really, really bad start. He actually sang really good on a few songs (like A rainy night in Soho). Ah well. Nothing to write home about. I suppose it could have been worse, though... They should do more songs wothout Shane on vocals. Why not Ned of the Hill?

sorry about the one song, giving something back and all, but, as sometimes happens, there were technical problems - that sounds like flannel, but isn't - and add to that what was strenuously reiterated to us as strict curfew we couldn't do any more than we did and we regretfully had to scratch Lullaby of London. More excuses that would be reasons: completely new crew because Jos and Murray were off on tour with someone else, a replacement guitar player for Philip and all the other attendant festival gremlins, a curfew, and all the bits of things that go to make the chutney which is the Pogues, all of which prompted Terry to describe the gig as 'going over the top of the trenches'. Ah, heck, we do the best we can, and in good faith. We're not out to take the piss.

That's life - enjoy the party

Post Sat Aug 11, 2007 6:08 pm

I saw the show in Sweden last night, and had a great time. When you see a band at a festival you really have to be ready for whatever. I agree that the sound was crap for the first songs, but it became better after a while.
I have seen the band better, but it seemed like they had bad monitoring - because the guys on the left for Shane weren't always "on net" with the guys on the right.
Also, the consert start were delayed because of the other bands. I saw the Pogues being ready behind the scene at the scheduled time, but they had to wait. And since the festival had to end at 01:00, there were not possible with encores. That's nothing you can blame Pogues for.
But as I said, if you are going to a festival you can't expect the same as if you go to a concert at the Brixton Academy. It's just to roll with it and have a party.
For me, it was a great one. And James F. were superb.

First photos of the Pogues in Sweden – or rather of some eerie dark shapes in eerily-lit darkness: :)

Barely alive after 3 days of drinking with Johan. Had a great time in Gothenburg but was disapointed with the show. The sound was crap like mentioned before. Shane was not in his best form. Forgot the words in Sick Bed and Fiesta and was not always synchronized with the band but that could have been monitor problems. Rainy Night In Soho was probably the highlight. No surprises in the setlist. Don´t remember all or the running order but they did:

Streams Of Whiskey
If I Should Fall From Grace With God
Boys From The County Hell
A pair Of Brown Eyes
Turkish Song Of The Damned
Tuesday Morning
Sunnyside Of The Street (I think)
Repeal Of The Licensing Laws
Dirty Old Town
The Body Of An American
Sally MacLenanne
The Sick Bed of Cuchulainn
Rainy Night In Soho
Fiesta (both last two with a trumpet player)

I have probably forgot one or two. Hope someone with a better memory can correct me. It was a short show thanks to a stupid curfew at 01.00.
Can´t wait for a possible Christmas tour :D

I thought the concert were awesome, first time I could attend a Pogues-concert with my crappy student-economy. I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end, and I was the one to get the plate which Shane and Spider had smashed their heads into :D
Please come back to Sweden again :D
