No MissWalshy, Shane should get a grip.

I was WERY dissapointed at the show, i mean i´w seen Pogues 7 shows the last 3 years and this was not even copareable to the others, THIS WAS SHIT.

I don´t care if the sound is bad, i can live with that but to see Shane Mess up Sick Bed and Fiesta totaly, is hartbreaking for me. He was out of tune for almost every song

I fellt ashame for the Pogues, sadly. Many of my friends went to see The Pogues for the first time and i have recomanded the band to so many people, and some of them turned to me afterwards and just laught, I was almost crying, thats how bad it was

We pay good money to see The Band preform so i think that the band should give the respect to the fans and at least try to give us the show that we deserve. Wheres all the energy gone? it´s allways there for the X-mas shows?????????????

You could hear a big difrence when Spider did Tuesday Morning, the band sounded good again but Good is not good anough for the Greatest band in the World.

At least for now i know it can´t get worse, i´m allready longing for the X-mas shows.

I´ll never give up the trust for The Pogues to be the best band in the world again. Don´t let us down boys, we know how good you can be.
Please come back to normal standard for X-mas. And come back to Sweden and show the audience here that this was only a bad day at work.

Lovely to meet all you freinds again at the preparty and at the show, 8)

Cheers

Johan

You said exactly what I wanted to say, but I guess you already knew that.
Thanx for the pre-party, we had a great time in Göteborg! I´ll upload the pictures when I´m back home.

Cheers,

The band wanted to do a good show in Sweden but the technical problems were too big so this show is probably the worst gig i've seen with the band through the years.
Shane couldn't hear the other bandmembers and probably Mr Cashman forgot to wake him up in good time before the gig, we have seen that before.
The bass and the bassdrum were too high through the show and the technician didn't adjust it so my theory is that he had serious problems with the mixingboard.
Would love to hear from James or Spider what kind of technical problems they had

By the way Manu Chao did a fantastic show and the sound was perfect
Then they'll take you to Cloughprior and shove you in the ground. But you'll stick your head back out and shout "We'll have another round"

My guess is Shane had been getting drunk with primal scream all day so was too pissed to perfom. Any better ideas?

I agree with most people that this show was somewhat disapointing. It was a long way to Gothenburg. It was my forth Pogues concert (2xN.Y 2006 and Glasgow 2006) and fifth time seeing Shane (+the popes , Dublin 2005). All the others gig have been much more satisfying. Even in Dublin when Shane was really pissed he seemed a bit more enthusiastic about the performance. Besides from what you other have described I was also disappointed at the audience. Not much happened and there were a lot of irritation where I was standing. Lot of young people who didnt even know who the Pogues were and just complained that this singer looks drunk and so... Anyway not even the pogues can perform great show all the times, just that I got my expectations so high because the previous shows have been great.

I also uploaded 2 clips I tooked with my phone (shit quality really). In one of the clip you can also hear two guys ,very close to a fight, arguing in swedish about Shanes condition

I´ve seen The Pogues lots of times 1989-2007, especially during the years with Spider as lead singer but also since the reunion...I have very mixed feelings about their concert at the Wow-festival. Parts of it were just as brilliant as The Pogues usually are, other parts were really bad. I realize that they had technical problems, it was obvious. But the energy wasn´t there, but maybe that was due to irritation over the things that were not going their way: The sound that was crap, the stupid curfew and Mr MacGowan who seemed to be somewhere else...When Spider stepped in on lead vocals for "Tuesday Morning" and doing "Repeal", they suddenly were so much better and I wish that he could take the lead vocals more often in the future...Let´s face it, people that attended the festival and don´t know about The Pogues were really angry about "a drunk lead singer". A girl next to me described it as tragic and it nearly made her cry...
But I will keep on travelling to see my all time favourites The Pogues, but I think Mr MacGowan need to shape up even more + some new material need to be released...

By the way... in a newspaper the same day as the festival, Terry Woods said in an interview that it would be a good idea to do a new record, because he had written new songs and he said he knew Shane had written new songs as well. Is this something to pay any attention to?

Oh, and the reviews of the gig have been quite diverting - they got 1/5 in Göteborgs-Posten (who said that at least Shane did his best and the rest of the band was to blame) and 4/5 in Borås Tidning. Just two examples...

Well, that journalist from GöteborgsPosten must be blind. What does he mean with "the rest of the band was to blame". Was he even there ? Did he watch the band members, like for example Terry Woods, helping Shane MacGowan when he got lost in some of the songs ? If they had been in the same state as Shane, the concert would have been a total disaster. Then they would not even have made it to the stage...
The journalist should show some respect for the extremely good musicians that Terry Woods, James Fearnley, Spider Stacy, Darryl Hunt, Andrew Ranken and Jem Finer really are...

Anders, They got 1/5 i GT as well, think i remember one quote directed at Shane (Free translated into english by me): "The Corps is alive - Almost"

I would have given it 1,5/5.

BTW, an awsome Preformance by Spotted Dogs at Café Publik the day before, You guys rocked the shit out of everyone. It was HOT in the front row, and i can just imagine how hot it was for you, when your glasses got all stemed up   :D

Thanks for the show, and please tell me and all the others when next gig is up.

Cheers

I just found a Metro from the same day, also with an interview with Terry:

Interviewer: You still haven't written any new music since the reunion. How long will the fans have to wait?
Terry: We have started talking about it a little, but we're not 20 anymore. Everybody have other things to do. We like the idea, but we haven't worked out the logistics. There is a possibility, but nothing is decided.

This interview is actually better (and longer) than the one in City, so maybe I should translate and post the whole thing. Which part of the forum is best fitted for that?
