Now, we're not old by any means (29 and 28) but my lovie and I just don't like dealing with it. We like to have our freedom to move about. We're also short...

I concur. I might be considered old now (40 in 2 weeks), but I got my moshig outta my system years ago. I am also short, so I have a problem seeing sometimes, but that's why I go to shows with my two friends who have almost a foot each on me. They wade through the crowd and I follow in their wake. Last year at the DC 9:30 Club show we were on the floor, but a bit off to the side.

JM O'Donnell wrote:so the second tier of the balcony straight back from the stage was perfect for us. We had a great vantage point without worry of anyone getting in our way. We also could easily make it to the bathrooms and the waitresses were right on top of things with the drinks (again, I went to high school with one of them)

Seriously great vantage point. And it was good to be able to go to the bathroom and get back to where you were. Our waitress was the petite one with the short brown hair. We were hooked

Ah, the one with the short hair was excellent. My friend Billy was way into her. In hindsight we should have done something about that. She seemed to come to him a little more than most. We were on the next tier down on the right side (facing the stage). We were two seats away from the small staircase to the lowest tier. If I ever go back to the EF again that's where I'm going to sit.
I keep my clothes on the floor because I have skeletons in my closet.

it kind of did seem like the staff were all working their first night or something. did anyone notice they didn't card at the door but the downstairs bars weren't separated from the floor? usually venues are overly cautious about letting alcohol near under age kids.

A note about the sound. I was on the floor, about a halfway back, in the center, and I thought it sounded great. I was under the balcony briefly during the opening act, and noticed the sound was pretty crappy from that vantage point....also the Radiohead show was in 97-rather than 98, as noted in an earlier post. It was Sunday August 24th 1997 to be exact. I was there also, and still have a great bootleg video of that show....I really feel that those of us who were in Philly witnessed a legendary show on Friday night. A story that will be told to children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I am still reeling from the blow!! The Pogues were amazing.

The people who want to converse about seating charts, dirty couches, etc. and bag on perfectly nice venue employees (i.e.the working class) in the face of that fact are truly insipid and boring.Yay Electric Factory employees!

Note: Not everyone that has a job is "working class," and "working class" is not necessarily the opposite of insipid and boring.

If anyone is interested, I've posted a recap of the Philly show, along with some pics that I took from the balcony. Here's the link:

Enjoy!

I've never liked you...

The box office guy, ladies female security guard, bartenders, bouncers, and the kid who showed me the proper exit were all working class...if not the working poor.

The knebbish posters are defined by what they choose to focus on; I don't presume to know whether they are white collar, working class or whatever... nor did I claim to.

Choosing easy toilet access and fresh drinks over a front row spot at a motherfucking POGUES concert in murder city is safe and boring.

Way to draw a line in the sand professor.

Keep fightin' the good fight, moron.

These are the best wheelie pictures I've seen.Your angle really captured the whole wheelchair setup, while in some other photos it appears Mr. MacGowan could be seated in a regular...silly...old chair.

Thanks.

Whatever, crabby. I'm mature enough to know what makes an enjoyable experience for me, and don't feel I need to get my head bashed as a badge of honor.

Been there, done that.

Thanks, Frances! My girlfriend got inside the venue before me, and she snagged some very good seats. I was quite happy with our view.

No...thank you!

By the way...the prison / jailhouse header photo on your webpage...is that a Pennsylvania location? Very interesting.

Your girl wouldn't have been the brunette, up in the balcony, screaming her head off, would she? She was funny.

good call
i never tend to think about necessary bodily functions
if i was at a concert and had to pee
why, i'd just let her go right then and there

(whether or not i'd undo my fly depends on my state)
The girl cried out a few times and the old man slept with his mouth wide open and his bad teeth showing.

Well, speaking as someone who, in his time, has been covered in most types of bodily fluids whilst at concerts, can I suggest you never piss whilst next to me, or you may end up like the last poor idiot who tried it...

It's one thing doing it in the middle of a huge festival field, quite another in a hall where the nearest toilet is only a few metres away.

Yes, it's a pic of Eastern State Penitentiary, in Philadelphia. It's very cool, definitely worth taking a tour.

No, my girl wasn't screaming her head off, she's more on the quiet side, but she is a brunette!
