Parking, shows, and my Dad

Post Tue Mar 20, 2007 2:22 pm

The Electric Factory definately pulled a fast one with the parking. We arrived and were told $10, the guy collecting asked for $15 and I'm reading that others paid $20. The cost seemed realted to the amount of time the attendants spent in the crappy weather, so I understand.

The show was fantastic. I've caught at least two shows on every trip made the last year and a half. The Philly show was amazing; one it was in my hometown, and two they played different songs. I love Kitty and had just decided I would never hear it live. Instead I heard it twice. (I liked Philly better then NYC).

The best part of all was my 60 year old father going to the show. He only started listening a few weeks ago. He became curious with my flights across country to see one band. He loved it and can not stop talking about it. He felt the intamicy of the music and the warmth on a freezing night. He is still smiling.

Thank you for a wondeful evening.

I too was at the Philly show. Though it wasn't my first time seeing the band I still felt the butterflies anticipating their set. The group I assembled was mostly made up of first timers; my girlfriend, a high school friend of hers, his girlfriend, my very good friend Billy, as well as some that went last year to the Atlantic City show. All in all it was amazing... just so long as you could ignore the overly ignorant staff at The Electric Factory (except for Nadine the waitress whom I went to high school with!). I paid $15 for parking in the lot right outside the doors to the EF. We stood outside freezing our business off while the staff attempted to figure out how to go about letting people in nearly a half hour after doors were to be opened. It was almost as if the entire staff were just starting their first night of working in a concert venue. The sound is always terrible in the EF, but The Pogues are fantabulous enough to cut through that and still sound amazing. All in all it wasn't so bad a night. The drive there was only about 50 minutes, which is up from the usual 25 minutes that it would take me to drive there. The way home was faster, mostly because there was less traffic on the road. The way was rough mostly because both the 76ers and Phantoms were playing home games that night... and my path takes me past the stadiums.

All in all it was a pleasure to see The Pogues again. The song selection was excellent as always (but how can't it be? It's the Pogues song list!). We all left in a great mood and I'm sure we'll be talking about this show for ages. I can't wait to do it again.

P.S. During Dirty Old Town I called a friend of mine and held my phone up in the air. He called me the next day saying, "Jeffrey, I appreciate the call. I was lying on my couch listening. The sound quality wasn't great, but I sure got the feeling". The fact that the feeling of a Pogues show can be transmitted over the tele proves just how grand an experience it is to see them

Every single employee of The Electric Factory I encountered was nice.

One of the bouncers had to grab my jacket from over the rail at least five times and also went and got cups for H2O...when asked.

Yay Electric Factory employees!

You're the lucky one I suppose. I know many people, including myself who have had bad experiences with the staff at the EF ever since the venue reopened at it's current location in 1995. The onyl reason I ever force myself through the doors of that horrid place is to see shows that are definitely worth seeing. David Bowie, Radiohead (1998), Superchunk, The Pogues...

At least someone met the nice one.

Well worth the trip

Post Tue Mar 20, 2007 8:59 pm

Six hours from DC. Glad we made it. The show was fantastic. We had no issues with the EF staff. Our very cute waitress up there in the top tier of the balcony was quite efficient in emptying our pockets of cash for Guiness.

Well done. The band was tight and played with wicked enthusiasm. I loved it as much as last year in DC.

I think my favorite number was "Thousands." Thanks, Philip, for a spot on performance. Brought a lump to my throat.

Top tier of the balcony eh? As in, right in front of the creepy little curtained in couches? If so I was right in front of you on the next tier down.

My Sweetheart and I were at the rail right in front of Mr. Chevron. Of course! Best "seats" in the house. Absolutely one of the greatest experiences of my life.

I still can't wrap my head around how amazing everything was. Someday this week I'm gonna write something about it, but I need to let it stew in there a bit first.

Plus my best pal Marc got a LOT of amazing pictures which so far I've only seen on his camera's tiny LED screen. As soon as he gets them uploaded I'll share them.

As far as best seats in the house are concerned, our days of dealing with the crowd at the front of a concert hall are over. Now, we're not old by any means (29 and 28) but my lovie and I just don't like dealing with it. We like to have our freedom to move about. We're also short... so the second tier of the balcony straight back from the stage was perfect for us. We had a great vantage point without worry of anyone getting in our way. We also could easily make it to the bathrooms and the waitresses were right on top of things with the drinks (again, I went to high school with one of them)

Yes, we debated lounging on one of those couches (there's a TV in each to see the stage), but decided to grab seats at the rail (we were the three leftmost seats as you face the stage).

I concur. I might be considered old now (40 in 2 weeks), but I got my moshig outta my system years ago. I am also short, so I have a problem seeing sometimes, but that's why I go to shows with my two friends who have almost a foot each on me. They wade through the crowd and I follow in their wake. Last year at the DC 9:30 Club show we were on the floor, but a bit off to the side.

Seriously great vantage point. And it was good to be able to go to the bathroom and get back to where you were. Our waitress was the petite one with the short brown hair. We were hooked

It might be a good thing you stayed off of those couches. My girlfriend and I noticed them as soon as we got up there and we immediately skeeved ourselved imagining how much DNA must be on them!
