I remember thinking you were crazy for taking that camera so close to the pit. Usually as I was being thrown into you.

Great photos!

I actually did lose a few parts, nothing expensive to replace. Thats the other benefit to using DSLRs over a P&S, they are a bit more robust.

Yeah I love my 85mm f/1.8 for things like this, I just wish I could have sprung for the F/1.4 version.

you took those with the nikon 85mm 1.8? nice clear pix! i'm trying to find a better lens right now. I was looking at the typical 50mm 1.8 lens. it's cheap. not sure it will be close enough tho. but if i'm in the photo pit it should be ok. 85mm might be good for just closeups..hmm decisions decisions

Most of the photos were taken with an 85mm f/1.8 I shot quite a few with my 50mmf/1.4 though. On a DSLR the 85 is 127mm which is great for closeups and the 50 becomes a 75mm which from a little ways away is great for full length shots. The only other lens I carry is my 24mm f/2.8.

Yeah man prime lenses are the way to go. Nothing makes for stunning photography like F/2 or faster.

Well the black and white photos are up here http://www.flickr.com/photos/evil_genius_photography/sets/72157600061896384/

They are medium quality lab scans so they are a bit grainy.
