Ah, fellas -- thank you SO MUCH!!!!! What a fabulous fabulous show. Shane, you're a trooper, and a trouper. To see you dancing in your wheelchair at the end of "fiesta" -- just golden. Spider, PLEASE sing more -- your one number was awesome. And the red roses I brought were for all of yous. You're just the best. Always were, still are. So grand to have you here in New York.
Looking forward to Philly tomorrow -- and then, once more to be crushed against the rail by the mad moshers (boys are so weird sometimes), on St. Patrick's Night.

i thought the band sounded GREAT tonight. One of the best shows i've seen from the Pogues so far. Shane really sounded good tonight, plus Spider, Andrew, Phil and Terry as well! I actually liked that the guys opened with "Repeal" tonight. Bravo to the Pogues for putting on one hell of a fun show. Ok time for bed...

Yes, they rocked. This was one of the best shows I’ve seen as well.
Shane really seemed to enjoy himself, even in a wheelchair, and he sounded fabulous. (Especially on “Poor Paddy,” “Auld Triangle,” etc. which I’d never heard live before.) The band, of course, were fabulous too, and seemed to rally around Shane a bit; there was one very sweet moment when James, I think, was helping to wheel Shane offstage, and the whole band got behind him to form a kind of “conga line” :) There was also quite a lot of banter between Spider and Shane; they were very animated.

Shane made a comment about the chair, and Spider quipped “All questions should be directed to the Chair.”

Shane, when the roses were thrown onstage: “Red roses for me??”

Shane: “It’s great to be back at the Roseland.”
Spider: “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."

In “White City” where Shane usually “dances” around the stage, he, not one to let his limitations get the better of him, decided to wheel the chair back and forth. He still knocked the mic around, he still sang his heart out, he laughed a lot, and he was wonderful.

Sure, there was the cancellation yesterday, but it was well worth the wait.
To the Pogues: In spite of everything, to go out there and deliver such a performance, you lads should be very proud.

Mr. C, at the show you said The Pogues love New York... Well, we love you too.

A wonderful show tonight!

Really, really, tremendous. In fact, I'm inclined to say tremendum.

It was as good a show as I've seen, and you even used the chair to your advantage - I'm thinking particularly of the conga line.

A most dramatic toast to the lot of you!

Now just back to nursing my wounds from the rail before the next shows...

videos coming soon.

kudos to the crowd in the front where i was standing for being so good to each other, for the most part. obviously people got out of hand but for every one drunken idiot who wanted to start a fight there were ten people there to calm him down...and everyone was great about picking people off of the floor asap.

an all around great show, better than nokia last year, i think.
sing me a story i haven't heard yet.

The show was spectacular. Almost as good as the March 18th show last year. There were a few kinks at the begining -- the band was in top form as always, but a couple of times I caught them looking around to make sure they were on time when Shane rushed some lyrics. But that seemed to work its way out by the third song or so. And Shane's voice grew stronger and stronger through the night. It was stunning during Kitty, The Auld Triangle and Rainy Night in Soho. The set list changes really worked well, being able to show off more of the Pogues versatility and bringing back some more trad numbers. The Roseland was also a much better venue than the Nokia.

The chair actually became a good part of the show. Shane looked very comfortable and was clearly having a good time. I especially liked the little dance with the rose in his teeth. But what is in the box where he waits?

My personal highlight: Spider imploring people to buy Cadillacs.
I like this bad set and I like getting drunk at luncheon.

Anyone have the Roseland setlist handy?

I can't sleep!!! Sitting here thinking about how great you all were. Worth every single brutal bruise I've got from my ribs to my waist -- thank God I'm tall enough to have only gotten that much of the rail.
Shane, when you got the mike tipped over and then managed to use your good foot to set it back up again -- brilliant, you. You sounded like a million Behans on "Auld Triangle" -- wonderful.
Spider -- Monday, Tuesday -- every day of the week. Great, just great. And you guys looked like you were really having fun together up there.
Philip: to have kept all of US together, and informed, and there -- and then to play the way you played. Thank you, just thank you.
"County Down," "Sickbed of Cuchulain," "Sally Mac," and yeah, "Irish Rover." All so good. Better I think than I've ever heard you before.
Glad you liked our roses, and you deserve so much more of a thank-you from all of us. I'd be standing there for another 2 hours right now, and walk up to the Roseland in the sleet and rain to have it.
'Til Saturday. Go to sleep knowing you're the best band in the world tonight.

It was the same as listed under the Chicago setlist thread, except Repeal was moved up to the opening, and Young Ned of the Hill was sung right before Tuesday Morning. I suppose that gave Shane more of a rest, and allowed for less empty time where he has to be wheeled on and off.

It was sublime, splendid performances all around.

Included: Body of an American, Sally MacLennane, Thousands are Sailing, Sick Bed of Cuchullain, Streams of Whiskey, Irish Rover, Pair of Brown Eyes, Turkish Song of the Damned, Dirty Old Town, Sunny Side of the Street, Boys from the County Hell, White City, Broad Majestic Shannon, Tuesday Morning, Rainy Night in Soho and probably a few more I don't remember.

Rainy Night is the one that echoed in my brain all the way home.

The burning marrow of rock 'n roll.
