My girlfriend and I flew into Boston from St. Louis for the March 10th show. We're both teachers, so we had to pick a weekend even though the Chicago shows were closer. It was my first time seeing the band though I've listened to them since about '88. Also my first trip to Boston and the Avalon.
Bottom line: killer show -- the band was great, the crowd was great, even the weather was great.
I was on the floor exactly two feet behind the flying beer. I would have liked to have been closer (for the band, not the flying beer), but I wear glasses, so it's either see the band or mangle the specs.
A couple of points I don't think have been brought up:
After "Young Ned" Shane said, "Oliver Cromwell was the first republican." Which, when you think it over, sort of makes sense.
Apparently (as per my girlfriend) the Avalon has a great ladies room -- couches and its own bar, even. I didn't see her for about the latter half of the show.
Some favorite moments: Shane's flying microphone and his "Sunny Side" miscues. Terry asking for peanuts (which didn't make any sense to me at the time until an earlier post cleared it up). The crowd during the impromptu "Dirty Old Town" sing-a-long. Spider's flying fingers. And . . . every glorious second of every song.
I hope to see the boys again next year, maybe twice this time.
