I really think the question should be 'Why have The Pogues been playing exactly the same set, give or take about 4 songs since they reformed in 2001??' Hardly the sign of a great live band is it?

I KNOW yer not supposed to feed trolls, but JESUS I cannot keep my mouth shut now.
Have you ever SEEN the Pogues, dear "guest"? I'd wager not, as the Pogues are without any shadow of a doubt one of the best live bands that's ever existed. Switching the songs around or changing up a lot of them would not have any effect on that status.
If the setlist was a dud I'd stand by and listen to you whine. As it is very nearly perfect, I will not.
We'd all love to see the Pogues become a working band which writes and records new music and adds the best of it to their live show. HOWEVER, them being among us in ANY form (let alone at the height of their performing powers, which they ARE) is a secular miracle, and I can't stand by and listen to your drivel. Don't think they're a GREAT live band? You're either deaf or daft, but it IS your perogative. Don't go. More tickets for the Faithful.
Hey, I used to be a dyed-in-the-wool Rolling Stones fanatic. They've been playing the same setlist for nigh unto 45 years. I'm also a lifelong Bob Dylan fan. He changes his setlist every night, often playing versions of songs his fans don't immediately recognize. Both approaches have their merits and drawbacks. Neither has ANY effect on their status as live performers, at least not in my book.
If I'd seen the Pogues 100 times I might feel differently. As I'm turning blue holding my breath for my SECOND Pogues show, I don't give a damn WHAT they play. I know it's going to be absolutely sublime.

Yes, i have seen THE POGUES in excess of 40 times and will continue to go and see them. The point i was trying to make is surely there are other songs that the band could play. These annual tours are starting to lose their spark as in the main we know what song is coming next now as the set list is always the same. Phil's setlist thread for CHICAGO...Look away now!!! why???? we already know what it is...thats the point i am making. There are loads of classic Pogues tunes which they dont currently play which i'm sure we would all love to hear. I think if Phil didnt post on these boards (and its great he does), i'm sure the conversatinos would be a little different.
