This was my first Pogues show so I was a little amazed at how hard Spider was slamming that onto his head.

It is, at least theoretically, a cheap metal beertray but its exact form tends to vary enormously from gig to gig. Spider once had to politely decline a solid silver tray provided by the promoter.

Yeah they don't sound very well

Great show last night! Does anyone know what music was playing in between sets? It sounded like some sort of chanting music. Thanks!

Also looking forward to tonite greatly. I'm getting out of this hellhole they call work in a couple hours. Would love to tell Mr. C in person how much his work here is appreciated if the boys are out and about after the show, but if not, thanks for the constant insite.

I'd like to add my thanks - that was a great night. I was on a first date with a girl who had heard *of* the Pogues but hadn't actually *heard* the music before. Now she's a fan.

Also - I had been to the Congress before, to see Flogging Molly, and the sound was terrible. Last night, the sound was great - whoever your sound guys are, they did an excellent job.

Where do I start? I met new people. Actually saw the band this time! The sound was great last night. I could hear all of the instruments for a change. Mr. Woods is amazing, isn't he? Shane was in very good form, mimicked the Chicago accent a couple of times, balanced his drink on top of his head, and seemed to be enjoying himself. Philip's performance of Thousands was incredible, I never thought it could be any better than it had been... Thank You Philip!! And while we didn't get Fairytale or Old Main Drag, it was a most memorable evening with Shane standing there singing Kitty and Poor Paddy. Topped off with a nice warm hug from Philip.

Wish you all were here.

I'm pretty sure we were standing next to you at the show. My husband was the one who told the guy to quit blocking your view. It was great meeting you and I couldn't agree more, the show was fantastic

you were wonderful Mr C!

Post Tue Mar 06, 2007 8:12 pm

Biggest dump of a theater I've ever been in, but the show made up for it (even without FONY). Mr C and James were whirling dervishes (great dance moves, Mr C) and have become worthy candidates to succeed James Brown as the "hardest working man in showbusiness"! I especially love when Mr C is at the right end of the stage firing up the crowd while James is at the other end, jumping up and down, on his knees, everywhere! The wife and I both remarked how wonderful Shane sang (especially in RNI Soho). Too bad about the merchandise snafu, most of it was late getting to the theater and apparently arrived mid show....a new snazzy black polo shirt which i bought, new tankard, same t-shirts as last year (one even had last year's dates, none had this tour's dates). Minor complaints, it's about the music, and the boys are better than ever, but next time try the Metro, Vic or Chicago Theater, the Congress is a total dive! Wish I could go again tonight!

Monday show

Post Tue Mar 06, 2007 11:48 pm

Great gig last night. The crowd was kind of stiff, though. Lots of enthusiasm, but just a few too many bores, planted in place like a field of petrified sunflowers. Very unlike the last time I saw the band, in Detroit at St. Andrew's in 1994--a more lively, sweaty pit that night. Probably due partly to the median age of the crowd. Anyway, a very good night of classics. 'Thousands' nearly brought me to tears--it's pretty much the story of my grandfather's life so it strikes an extra chord every time I hear it. Well done, Philip.
