Brixton 12/21 photos..

Post Fri Jan 07, 2005 5:31 pm

I've emailed the fellow who took the wonderful pictures-nice guy.

Cait was wearing a tour t-shirt that night, and even though it doesn't look black in the pictures, that is what she is wearing. I remember the guy with the mohawk too!

These pictures are from the 21st. I was there and saw some people who stood next to me that I recognised.

Cheers

color change in the photos

Post Sun Jan 09, 2005 9:06 pm

Hi... I'm the guy who took the photos in question, thanks for the compliments. I'm happy to share them. I use an infrared camera for the shots in low light... which does funny things to the colors and sometimes turns black to white. Yes, Cait was wearing black that night... sorry about the confusion.

Ooo! That's quite clever! I'll have to remember that trick.

What kind of camera/lense are you shooting?

Back in my uni days they had us shooting infra-red film. Really slow film though. We had to shoot it at 40ASA. Made it impossible to shoot anything that would do something crazy like move. Lots of pictures of barns and hillsides came out of that assignment. :)

Yea, what is that stupid crap about musicians moving onstage? Can't they invent a way to play the guitar without moving their hands?

Ruining my pretty pictures like that... *hmpfs*

Hello.. the camera used in the shots is a digital Sony F707, which came out about three years ago and has been replaced by a couple newer models since (F717,F828). The B&W photos were taken in Nightshot mode, which uses infrared light to take pictures in low-light. It's a feature unique to Sony cameras I think. The photos come out colored mostly green, but I've developed a few methods I like for turning them into B&W's.

So it provides an IR flash? Cool.

Digital I assume? Yeah - I'm a little to lazy to actually do research. :)

Hi Mordac, and thanks again for the photos. It's great to have a reminder in pictures of what was a fantastic night. :D
Are you a professional photographer? Do you have any other gig photos you'd like to share with this forum?

I wish I did, but sorry, no other photos of the Pogues. I'm not a professional, just a dedicated amateur. You can see a ton more of my photos using the same method here: http://first-avenue.mordac.org/. It's my collection of band/club photos from around my home in Minneapolis, MN.
