March 17 - I hope Pogues realize.....

Post Sun Mar 19, 2006 12:53 am

Some observations about the show March 17:

· The look of joy on so many faces. Never seen this at a concert before. I think it explains the "subdued fans" comments in so many reviews. People were simply happy to be watching the performance they waited so long for.

· Part 2 of above comment...I've never seen so many strangers embracing, high-fiving, etc at a show. Again, the mood bordered on ecstasy.

· When Andrew sang his song Darryl took over drums and Philip took over bass. Cool surprise for me.

· The band played a concise tight set. Flawless to my ears.

For the Pogues….I hope you realize the simple appreciation your fans have for the music.

While discussions of the current state of Shane might be fodder for conversation, at the end of the day, we love the band because of the timeless music that stirs our souls like few groups can.

Who can explain how an ensemble of characters can achieve something so special?

It was a brilliant show. I hope for more.

Yeah... and what ye don't know yet, Fintan, because everyone has been so nice and secret about it so far ... is that after every single show so far there has been a massive orgy right there on the floor of the venues. In A.C. they had to draw upon Philly and Harrisburg for whores. Boston pulled whores from the rest of New England. We were fine here with the women of D.C. Experience made up for numbers. At any rate, though I really like what I read above, I thought we should bring you in on the real story now.

My friends and I could all be considered subdued wallflowers on any given night . When Shane hit the stage however all of that went out the window. My calves are still aching from jumping up and down with strangers on St.Paddy's. And my ears haven't returned to norm. I can still hear the drunken singing ringing in my ears.

It's been said that the Clash were the only band that mattered, but I believe the Poges are the only ones who can carry their torch. "Straight to Hell" never sounded so better as the lights dimmed in anticipation for the Boys from the Co. Hell. Perhaps it was the ghost of Strummer somewhere in the wings.
