Mssrs Chevron, Fearnley, Finer, Stacy, MacGowan et al are the very epitome of fine gentlefolk when it comes to the lost art of giving a shit about things like that. Gods bless 'em, each and every one. Ar, matey!

Boston ... the snow has hit. Odd day here in the city. Even by our standards, the weather has been plain bizarre. Looked out at the skyline, the river, the backdrop a screen of pink and pastel, and clumps of ivory clouds. There's magic in the air. It's 6:47pm. I've been drinking for about three hours and I'm close to legless. I'm on a lean. I'm bent. I'm desperate to see the gig.

And now I will walk into a tornado, I will face the storm: trying to cop street tickets from the drooling crew of urban urchins outside the Orpheum. I'll be holding a fan of bills, I'll be thowing money around the gaff.

Wish me luck ... I have a feeling I'll need it.

Awsome show last night. Looking forward for the drive to Ny for Thursdays show. Made me feel young again.. even if for only a couple of hours. The band sounded stronger than ever. The adrenaline was pumping right from the first note of the pre-recorded classic Straight To Hell..

Anyways thanks Phil and I for one hope you folks have it in your hearts to return to play Boston soon. You know we'll be there!!!

Well, there you have it. A second night of lasting memories. A twist tonight...."County Hell". My wife's cousin was in his glory. He had hoped it would be played and he had his wish answered. We almost...almost were treated (maybe) to a solo performance by Mr. Fearnley, but his mates showed up before we could find out what it was. Shane endorsed "Brokeback Mountain" as the best western ever made and a rowdy Scotsman rushed the stage and was diverted by James. Shane felt the band was a bit "conversational" on stage and Terry did a lights out rendition of "Young Ned". Perfect. I have a few photos and a few film clips I took. If I can figure out how the hell to present them to you, I will do so soon. I filmed "Broad Majestic Shannon", "Body of An American", "Thousands Are Sailing" and "Boys from the County Hell." I tried to film "Fairytale" but my first memory card ran out, then internal memory, so it is fragmented, to say the least.
Ella, again, great job and a real sport with this bunch.

Now, I begin my sweet Pogues hangover, hoping again to someday imbibe.

Thank you for two nights I'll never forget.

P.s. Corey, if you cared, really cared, you would have stopped me from eating those offensive egg rolls.
Did the old songs taunt or cheer you, and did they still make you cry?

Screw that - I came home and had cold mozzarella sticks and pizza.

Quite the show..."County Hell" being added was truly a highlight!

I only wish I was heading to NYC to see that madness. Many thanks to the Pogues for making this St. Patty's Day one to remember.

I am personally back in Halifax NS, Canada following the Tuesday night show.

I have to say, it was even better than I expected. Shane looked and sounded fantastic, as did the rest of the band. Every song was was an excellent inclusion and very very well executed! Certainly worth the trip to Boston for this. Had I had the cash I would've stayed for the second show!

As for Will Whitmore, yes, a LOT of people missed a fantastic set from him. Just amazing! But you know, the doors opened, some ppl got shirts, some ppl got beers and some ppl went to their seats. But the lobby was just simply PACKED because that's where the booze was. That's why there were only ~ 20 people actually seated for his set.

I really enjoyed the Street Dogs' set as well.

But sadly, I don't recall many of the really really fine details of the show. After leaving the show the GF and I considered going to that 'post Pogues" party at the what's-it-called bar they were handing out flyers for. But having decided to go back to the hotel instead, we hailed a cab.

Just outside the hotel, across the boulevard at the Comfort Inn on Morissey Boulevard, the cab hopped the curb, blowing both front tires and deploying both front airbags and sending my gf's face into the barrier.

We spend the next hour and a half at the emergency room. She got 4 stitches in her bottom lip, some sore teeth, and a sore nose. She'll be ok!

Anyway, had a great time all.

The show will leave an overall lasting impression, but many of the details were replaced by the events afterward. I'll have to use this thread to pick up the fine details again.

Thank YOU, Phil!!! I haven't seen The Pogues since 1991 (when you played with Joe Strummer) and was thrilled that I got to see you again. I remembered why The Pogues have been the best show I'd ever seen - and that's compared to a "giant" like U2.

My husband had been unfamiliar with The Pogues but went with an open mind. It didn't take very long until he was clapping and moving along with the rest of us, and he had a blast too! (And neither of us has an ounce of Irish blood.)

I hope we don't need to wait that long to catch you again...

The opening act has to buy his own ticket?!
christina, thanks for offering up that ticket, I missed you at the MIT hotel but got lucky and got in for free anyway. I worked at the Orpheum ushering for years and sailed right thru 10 minutes before they went on. :D What a great show ! Must have been the fool moon last night, the crowd was electric and shane is amazing considering how plastered he was.I wish I could've smuggled more $8 24oz Harpoon IPA's into the seats.Anyone bootleg the show ?? I MUST have a copy.

It's an old subject, true, but I was just reminded of a line of Brendan Behan's about critics, and went and looked it up:

First post here - saw both Boston shows, my first Pogues shows and THANK YOU!! Phil and Jem and Shane and Spider and all the rest!!! Wow!! I'm really missing those shows right now (have played nothing but my Pogues cds since, esp. today 3/17). Sure wish I was in NYC for all those shows!

But 7.50 for Guinness pub cans?! Is that typical for the Orpheum. Sure glad we downed a few pints at The Burren beforehand.

Tonight oughta be fantastic!
