I'm waiting for the HBO documentary: Hookers at the Point vs. Shane on the Shore.
An absolute battle of the ages. I smell Pay-Per-View on this one.

The Borgata may have been the worst venue where I have ever seen a show. The sound was tolerable, but fair at best. it was basically a hotel conference room with a stage. They put in new carpet a couple weeks ago! Everything the 930 in DC had, the Borgata lacked - character, good sound, adequate facilities, reasonable bar service... not to mention some cool area bars to party at before and after the show.

The lines for drinks and the restroom were rediculous. The only bar we found in the casino that served Guinness ran out of Pint glasses at 7:30 so there was a 10 minute wait for each round. I talked to Darryl Hunt briefly on Friday and he didn't understand why the AC show wasn't in Philly. Everyone I talked to in AC agreed.

All that said, however, the Pogues were great and did not disappoint. Incredible set, high energy, great time.

Pogues were great, but the Borgota crowd sucked. By the second song they were throwing beer and punches down front and my wife and I had to escape to the back.

2 biggest surprises at the Borgata Show

-How good Shane sounded.

and

-What a great set by the SawDoctors. Had a couple of their old cd's, but was really impressed by their live show.

From a Doc's fan, thanks for the compliment on the lads. But you were really shortchanged for a REAL Docs show. They only did 55 minutes in AC. See em in an "imtimate" venue, and they'll blow ya away! Oh, I also really enjoyed the Pogues! Bob

my OWN review of the borgota

Post Thu Mar 16, 2006 10:11 pm

my review of the show. borgota. TERRIBLE venue. took my 30 minutes to get to a point where i could lift both of my arms. but well... the pogues.

first off, the opening band did NOT suck. like most shows i've been to. the sawdoctors. tommy k? c'mon

the pogues...took them a while to get the sound right. but i realized how much i hate people. i managed to get within about 15 feet of the stage...evidently the pogues have attracted a LARGE following of freshly 18-year olds drunks. what is it with the pogues and drinking? i mean... i like a drink. but i was stone cold sober at the show. (the line for beer was painful, and... i would love to be able to remember it) i usually have to elbow and gnaw my way up to the front of the stage for shows. but... these.... "kids" (i'm only 22, mind you) these kids. figure.... the pogues! get drunk and thrash around like i'm at a Choking Victim concert. or... dare i say it? dropkick murphy's? well...they all ran off to puke somewhere, and i kept filling their slots. so i was close.

i'm a jerk, i guess? i catch mistakes. there were few, and i loved the way they handled them. shane's voice is kinda gone... only from smoking, though. (like tom waits with a higher voice) but, i play in a band, and our set include "Dirty old town" i have trouble with some of those notes, he didn't. so... (though the audience held the notes out (off key) longer than he did)) he sipped at some cheap wine during the set (for those who care how DRUNK DRUNK DRUNK he is. woo) though i did notice him walking with a limp. some physical injury, not drunkenness.

i did not know phillip had taken over 1000's are sailing. and Andrew (do we call him Andrew?) has a surprisingly good voice. unlike, (in my opionion) the un-named, though named... famale they brought on for fairtytale. (at which point my friend leans over and asks.."is SHE leading?"

anyway, i could go on a lot more. i was very pleased with the performance. VERY glad to see it was NOT shane macgowan featuring the pogues. which i hate that everyone carries shane as their drug/drink flagman, since the other's have already died.

james was amazing. couldn't take my eyes off of him.

i still hate most people, though... shane fumbled for a lighter, for roughly 3 seconds, and someone threw one... not towards... AT him. and not a bic... a HEAVY, (comma) METAL (not heavy metal) ZIPPO at him. and he should have peed on you.

i'm sorry you all had to read that.

Borgeta Show

Post Thu Mar 16, 2006 10:48 pm

I've seen the Pogues maybe 7 times; first time @ Danceteria in '86, last time w/ Joe Strummer fronting @ the Beacon Theatre ('90?). Of course then Shane numerous times since.

I generally don't go to concerts any more...and who is there to see these days? But make no mistake this was an absolute thrill. Who gives a damn about the beer lines and the color of carpet? Whats the #@!* matter w/ you people? For chrissakes you were at a Pogues show- and they were burning it that night. Nothing like reliving the dreams of past glory -- in that pit, not a place on earth I'd rather have been.

Hell if I can get my hands on a ticket for any of these 3 NY shows..well that will be a coup'. St Paddy's is our aniversary, but my wife would understand...

I'm 60 and I agree. The show was great, the crowd sucked. I was hoping the Casino would control the drunks, but judging from the morons up front, money from the booze was a higher priority. My wife and I started the show up close, but had to retreat to the back after getting soaked with beer. And the SawDoctors ARE better live than on cd.

First thing I told my wife when the Doc set was done was that the next time they come over we're going to a show they're headlining. She agreed.

We saw them (the Docs), in Philly at the TLA........2 hours of non-stop good-time rock-n-roll. I know this is a Pogues board, but I did hear many nice things said about the Docs, after their set, by Pogue fans. They may be different, but they both entertain for sure!! Bob
