would you say Shane's performance in the beginning was similar to Guilfest?

Wow! Thanks MacRua, that's made another night! Together with being on a thread with Mr. Chevron -pretty cool!

To answer the question about the Guilfest I'd say pretty similar but hard for me to say as I was somewhat drunk at the Guilfest (it was the sun...)! The overall sound of the band is afr better inside though.
Last night as I slept I dreamt I met with Behan, I shook him by the hand as we passed the time of day.

Thoroughly enjoyed the show. Seemed there were a few problems with the sound to begin wiht though, it wasn't until about 1/2 way through Broad Majestic Shannon that it seemed they actually had everything in the PA working properly. All of a sudden something happened and you could actually hear everything that was going on!

The set itself was very good, Shane took a while to warm up, but certainly seemed very into it towards the end, especially the songs not performed in previous reunion tours. Highlights for me were London Your A Lady, Sunnyside Of The Street, Body Of An American and Fairytale... Sayanora was good too.

The Dropkicks did an excellent job with their set too. Really gave it everything and ensured the Pogues would have a tough job to follow it.

the local paper hasn't really done a review of the show, just Fairytale of New York, going on about how great Cerys was, typical of the South Wales Echo really. Though there is a picture of shane and her on the frontpage.

First time I`ve seen the Pogues, though been a fan for years.
The first five songs were a bit ropey, then PA seemed to get working, whilst Shane improved as the gig went on.
The band were superb, although don`t think Shane calling Terry Woods "baldy" went down too well.
Apologies were made for the poor "linguistics".
Anyone any ideas what was being alluded to.?

I Went last night - bloody fantastic! I preferred it when the stage was more boxed in like the academy gigs, because it felt like a gig in a school Gym atmosphere wise - but The Band and the crowded were awesome. I Fucking loved it - Fairytale was truly epic and I really think we should get it to number one this christmas. hearing it love always reminds me of that fact. I thought Thousands are Sailing was wonderful, and Spider truly showed his natural pedigree as a frontman as well during Tuesday Morning. I really, REALLY enjoyed myself - I might be going to Brum as Well....

We have not yet mastered the Welsh language. Some people in this band suffer really awful liberal guilt.

1st time seeeing the Pogues....superb. Yep, it did take a couple of songs to kick in, but considering it was the first night, and The Pogues are by no means the only band to suffer from the "3 songs to get the PA mix sorted" syndrome, I don't think we can be too harsh. I love "Hell's Ditch" & I've got a fair bit of time for "Waiting for Herb", so it was great to see those albums represented.
Tons of singing/dancing/drinking, plus a cracking opening from the Dropkicks.... perfect way to kick off Xmas festivities

Diolch yn Fawr boys ....& Cerys!

That's great, those are two songs I really wanted to hear live.

Philip, I suspect Spider won't rest easy until he's told that the answer to his question of what is Merry Christmas in Welsh is "Nadolig Llawen"! 8)

It was a great gig indeed. Shame the venue sucked and the staff are shitheads tho really. £3.20 for a pint of Tetley's?? Seem a little harsh. I'm only really bitter cos they wouldn't let my mate in though. Said he was too drunk, but they were happy to let the other 40yr old guy stagger past him and into the venue.
But nevertheless, it was a brill gig.
<br>You did a great job guys.
