Sorry I have to ask - is that last years backround back up again? Seriously, did someone save it and put it back up?

It is nice, I have to admit.

yes - I don't think it was any different to what I saw in Manchester last year. Two big Christmas trees either side and white stars on a black background. It was very nice, though obviously it didn't have the same impact as seeing it the first time around!
Last night as I slept I dreamt I met with Behan, I shook him by the hand as we passed the time of day.

Cardiff date a fairytale for Cerys
Dec 13 2005
Paul Maunder, South Wales Echo
Full URL

FORMER wild woman of pop Cerys Matthews got into the seasonal spirit by duetting with Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan on their Christmas anthem The Fairytale of New York.

The ex-Catatonia lead singer performed the rousing duet, made famous by MacGowan and the late Kirsty MacColl, at Cardiff International Arena last night.

Cerys and Shane danced together during a shower of confetti for the festive showstopper.

The original single is being re-released on December 19 to coincide with the fifth anniversary of Kirsty MacColl's death.

Royalties from sales of the re-released single will support homeless charities.

Review: The Pogues Dec 13 2005

Jonah Webb, South Wales Echo

Cardiff Anternational Arena

BACK in the old days (the 1980s) The Pogues were one of the top bands to go to see if you were a) Irish, b) a student or c) drunk.

Nowadays, though, all sorts turn out to see Shane and pals - from punks to dock-workers, middle-aged couples to students who weren't even born when iconic second album Rum, Sodomy And The Lash was released in 1985. And many of them were actually drunk.

Shambolic Shane - the poet/drunk - staggered on stage at the CIA last night and spat "iechyd da" at a packed crowd, then the band launched into a top set of high-energy tunes including the Irish pub classic Dirty Old Town.

And during the encores we were treated to the best Christmas song ever - Fairytale Of New York - complete with snow falling and our very own Cerys Matthews taking over the late Kirsty MacColl's part.

A top Irish folk band with that bladdered bloke off the bus mumbling over the top - what more do you need for a great night out?

Pogues joined on stage by Catatonia star
Cerys Matthews appears with the band in Cardiff
Full URL
Former Catatonia singer Cerys Matthews joined the Pogues on stage in Cardiff last night (December 12).

The Irish veterans were playing the Cardiff International Arena when Matthews joined them, taking the part of the late Kirsty MacColl on their Christmas classic 'Fairytale Of New York'.

"Cerys Matthews did a wonderful job performing with Shane [MacGowan]," one fan posted on the band's official forum. "It's just a shame Kirsty couldn't be there. Although I dare say she was there in spirit."

Another messageboard poster added: "Cerys and Shane were wonderful for 'Fairytale' - made my night!"

Dylan, congratulations - you're anonymously famous!
would you say Shane's performance in the beginning was similar to Guilfest?

So might we even get a review of the gigs in NME this year? They didn't bother to publish one last time around...

Thanks to all in Cardiff last night, especially the lovely Cerys.

For the record, we played Sunnyside Of The Street, Sayonara, Misty Morning Albert Bridge, London You're a Lady and Dark Streets of London last night. But the show is still in the making, so songs may come and go for a while. 8)
