Hyde Park July 5 2014

Streams of Whiskey
If I should Fall From Grace With God
Boys From The County Hell
A Pair of Brown Eyes
Spider: Jesse James
Terry: Streets of Sorrow
Birmingham Six
Body Of An American
Spider: Repeal of the Licensing Laws
Dirty Old Town
Sickbed Of Cuchulainn
Sally MacLeanne
Rainy Night in Soho
Irish Rover
Fiesta
Shane was not in top form, but still did well on quite a few of his numbers. An emergency in the audience stopped the show for a few minutes at the end of Irish Rover, paramedics had to fetch a guy from the crowd and gave him CPR as they took him away. It seemed to me James and Terry saw the crowd giving them signals that something was wrong and they stopped the song. Good work boys!

Sorry to see that Shane is in such bad shape. I read the interview in Uncut this morning and it gives a totally different view. I guess you can't chain smoke and drink heavily for decades without something happening to your health.

Review in the Evening Standard today:

"What’s the difference between The Libertines and The Pogues, both of whom appeared at Hyde Park on Saturday? One is a formerly brilliant band with a drug-addled frontman who are now content to cash in on former glories. The other one is The Pogues.

That’s a little unfair – The Pogues are all those things too – but it’s hard not to be cynical about The Libertines’ latest reformation. Pete Doherty himself has cited the “filthy” amount of money they’re being paid as the chief motivation for the band getting back together. (...) When they shared the mic to trade lines of Siegfried Sassoon’s Suicide in the Trenches, to mark the centenary of World War One, there was a feeling that they could still be the 21 Century’s Lennon and McCartney.

Or they could be The Pogues – financially stable but artistically bankrupt. The choice, as ever, is theirs."

Well, whatever the review, I am sorry I missed it and the Underworld do as well. Hope the rumours about "the last show" are not true though!

Don't get me wrong, I'm the biggest Shane-fan you can come across...but judging from the recent youtube-videos from Bristol and Hyde Park, his voice is really shot now. He sounds fucking tired. I sincerely hope that all is well with him...but he really doesn't sound good. Now, his 80s singing voice was long gone, but even in recent years he still had that Shane-typical vigor, anger and sneer in his vocals (just listen to the Paris DVD from 2012)...but that seems to be gone, judging from the very recent gig videos...makes me really really sad.

Enjoyed the set myself. I appreciate Shane wasn't in top form but it didn't appear too detrimental to things. Fantastic to hear 'Streets of Sorrow/Birmingham Six', not sure I've heard that one performed live before. Fair play to all involved - audience, band, stewards, medics - in helping the poor guy whose heart stopped. Very glad to hear that he has recovered, that could have been a very different outcome.

Not convinced by The Libertines.....all hat, no cattle.

I'm convinced that I was stood next to Shane's sister down at the front....I did ask her but she said she wasn't, although she also appeared to be trying to supress a smile at the same time :) .
Life has often tried to stretch me but the rope always went slack.

Can you post a link to that interview? Would be really lovely!
