Oh, I'd hate to miss seeing you too - I'm hoping to meet up with you guys and any other Glasgow-bound Medusans! The Scotia is on Stockwell Street, and it's supposed to be a great place - good beer, good food, good music. I'll get more info and post it forthwith.

Meetings

Post Thu Nov 24, 2005 12:18 pm

Wow its lovely to be talked about!!! Thanks!
This year regrettably I'm only going on the 2nd night thanks to me growing up at last and making sensible choices (work and money y' know) However I have promised Carmen to try and meet before 1st night too. Have very nearly persuaded Andy P Davies to join us also!!
The Brazenhead would probably work for me, I'm still barred from McGinns but Paul McGinn gave me a reprieve for last year's concerts.
Aislings Da;- Good work mate!!! hope we get to meet again! 8)
Its my plan

How's it going Rhiannon. Sounds like you are keeping the head this year. I am going both nights this year again but on the first night I'm taking my daughter and my Da, as early Christmas presents, so we are planning to go thru early and get good seat upstairs. I like the feeling of three generations of my family, a 6 year old, 34 year old and a 68 year old, sitting together all going ,mental to the Pogues.

On the second night there is a squad of us coming thru and we are downstairs that night for a good night on the swally and some serious jumping about. I think we are planning to go into the BrazenHead before the gig and then walk over to the Carling about 8 ish. Not sure when we will be thru to the Brazen though as I need wait until I find out when everybody finishes work.

Look forward to meeting up with you again.

Glasgow Shows

Post Fri Nov 25, 2005 7:51 am

Is anyone familiar with the Glasgow venue?

My companion's not one for getting in amongst the crowd and we have "Standing tickets" - do they have a bar open there for him to prop up duing the show ?

Carling Academy

Post Fri Nov 25, 2005 10:26 am

Hi Maureen,
The venue is really lovely like an old cinema which is refurbished. There are at least two large bars, (cant remember if the one right of the standing area had another one opposite).
Going to the bar last year while Shane was off stage for a bit and craning my head round to try to keep my eyes on the stage was a bit tricky. Even during a song the bar was still very busy so I'm not sure about your companion comfortably 'propping up the bar' 8)
Its my plan

Ther is three levels to the Carling Academy. There is a bar on the highest level straight in front of you when you walk in. It is usually quite quiet during a show however you will struggle to see much from there. There is also a bar in the lowest area also which will get a great view but is very busy.

My suggestion would be to stand in the second level behind the mixing desk and to walk back up to the quiet bar every time you need a drink.

Thankyou Rhiannon and Guest for the info !! Much appreciated.

Sounds good to me - my companion should be quite happy with this arrangement - he's not an official Shane or Pogues fan - he's just doing "escort duty" for me but could well be converted by the end of the night - particularly if he has good bar access!!

See you there ! Cheers!

I haven't been to one of the shows in Glasgow and I always try to get into the front row...is there usually a big line before the doors open?

in my experience, long lines at the door really dont matter. most folks head to the bar first.
