Another excellent performance. If possible i think i enjoyed this one ever more than Bluesfest, i was in roughly the same position about 7-8 metres back right in front of Terry and Mr C. With an older audience the pace was less frenetic at least during the early part of the evening so i was able to concentrate more on the individual musicians and less on protecting myself from imminent death. The set list was the same as Melbourne - including Kitty and Greenland Whale Fisheries. This was great as GWF provided a highlight for me, I think Phil did an even better version of Thousands tonight. I also enjoyed Repeal.
To judge from the big grins the band seemed to enjoy themselves enormously and the whole performance somehow seemed more relaxed than Sunday, maybe its the thought of going home.

I still can't believe that after all this time I've seen the Pogues twice in a week. You've made my year! A big thankyou to the band for another terrific night out. Please come back soon, I'd love to hear some of the numbers that you don't seem to play live anymore, but then what would you leave out? You'd just have to play twice as long.

Was in Hordern last night. One of the best performances I have seen from the band ever. Does anyone have a recording of "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" It was touching last night.

That song had the hairs on the back of the neck standing up, spine tingling stuff. Brilliant show, come back soon.

Great night at the Hordern last night. The band was in fantastic form....and they really seemed to be having a great time. Even Shane was banging his head with Spider on the beer trays at the end. Phil you looked really cool in your black beret. A dream come true.....don't take so long to come back, we love you down here!

Great show last night at the Hordern. Much, much better than the last time I saw them in oz at the ANU Bar on the Peace and Love Tour and as good as the 2001 Brixton Academy shows (hard to beat Christmas time though). Dirty Old Town and the Band played Waltzing Matilda are still ringing in my ears and Mr Chevron reminded me to tip a hat to George Cohen when I'm in NYC next week with a magnificent Thousands are Sailing. Everyone was in top form including SMcG. Bless you all.

Can I just say my 10 year old had the absolute time of his (short ) life at the concert! He sang, clapped, stomped & cheered like a true fan. I can't get that Pogues T-shirt off him!

The crowd was such an eccleptic mix of people, I was truly amazed at the span of ages there.

Thank you Pogues.

P.S. 'And the band played waltzing Matilda' brought tears to my eyes, seriously.

Michelle

I hope to review the Sydney gig in more detail elsewhere, but in the not entirely unlikely event I never get round to it I must at least here give my thanks to the Pogues for one of the most inspiring and joyous evenings of my life. Another notable one was in the same venue 22 years earlier.

The friend who I dragged along 22 years ago of course instantly became a devoted Pogues fan and this time we brought along another three, two of whom had never been to a Pogues gig, plus a refugee from Thatcherism who managed to see the Pogues a couple of times before he escaped. None of us currently live in Sydney; two from Canberra, two from Sawtell on the north coast of NSW (for comparison, that's almost exactly Land's End to John O'Groats), and one from the Blue Mountains (that's like... oh, never mind).

If memory serves me correctly, this was without a doubt the better of the two Hordern Pavillion gigs. However memory almost never serves correctly, generally granting an entirely unwarrented rosy glow to the past, so if anything I'm erring on the side of caution. I think the difference is that the band I saw 22 years ago were doing their job, and the band I saw the other night were doing what they loved. Both being the best band in the world at the time, but I know which I prefer.

And for the record, Rainy Night in Soho drew tears from me, but it hardly counts, because I tear up just thinking about Rainy Night in Soho.

Matthew.

Great show in Sydney!!!! I was front row, with my 17 year old son (my husband opted for the safety of seats) with the life almost squeezed out of me but I loved every moment. Thanks guys, it was truly fabulous, and I'll remember it forever, sigh. Four other oldies were next to me who all had their teenage children with them, that says something! I've taken awhile to comment cos my computer has been very very sick.
