The 'Singer' was just a wasted fucking shambles who couldn't even
sit on a box without being held up by an assistant, let alone stand. He fell to the floor at least four times and had to be carried on and off stage throughout the whole gig. We all know who is supposed to look after the 'singer' and ensure he makes it to shows on time and in a
reasonable state, well that person ought to be fucking ashamed of himself.
Don't anyone dare come back at me and say Shane is a living legend and he lives his life his way sometimes you get a good gig sometimes not......blah blah blah... Yeah yeah i know, God knows i've been to enough of them.
We were so looking forward to hearing Shane sing Boat Train, Waltzing Matilda and Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah. Not to be though folks. Seven musicians held it together as best they could and boy did they do an almighty job of it. Spider was rock solid, he sang Waltzing Matilda (the abridged version

fair play Spider) while Shane was comatose in his tent at the side of the stage. He sang whole verses of Broad Majestic Shannon. He stood in front of Shane counting in time to the music to try and get him to slur at the correct time. Darryl, Jem and the Brass section took their cues from James' theatrical over the top nodding of his head. Philip and Terry and Andrew were unflapable.
In fairness, Shane pulled it together for a few songs. Soho was ok and Poor Paddy was punk at it's purest. The lads hanginging on to Shane's every movement and screech to get the timing right at "Courdoroy britches".
I'm lucky enough to flying over to the Brixton gigs and will more than likely be treated a vintage performance. For a lot of people though, last night was the last time to see The Pogues play together. What a way to say FAREWELL.

EDIT:Great to meet Mats Per Johann and Aidan again

The roller coaster that is Shane.... I must admit that it does piss me off when i have paid good money and Shane is a shambles, having said that, all the gigs i have been to over the last few years, Shane has been on form (this goes without saying for the other members of the Pogues) maybe i have been fortunate.
Only time will tell if this continues....See you in Brum.

Surely the only person responsible for last night was the man himself. This idea that the fault lies elsewhere is incredibly short sighted. The Pogues are The Pogues. Which is why they continue to Fascinate, Entertain and inspire so many people.

Sorry to hear all this - but who amongst us is perfect? If we get 1 bad show out of, say, 7, that's pretty good...the solution is just go to all the shows you can! I was a Grateful Dead fan while Garcia was alive, saw literally 100s of shows. Out of every 3 shows 1 was astonishing, 1 was pretty good, and 1 was a dog. Kept going back for the 2 out of 3. Seen 14 Pogues shows since the reunion...maybe had 2 less than stellar shows...12 great shows out of 14 is pretty darn good. I'm about the same age as the boys and I'm sure that I can be accused of not being in top form at my job 1 day out of 7 due to my own indiscretions...
I just thank whomever that they are touring and we get to see them 1 more time!!!

This is so sad to hear... well... to read....
I've seen the Pogues a couple of times in Dublin and this year in Münster and every single concert was just fuckin brilliant! It's such a shame that the LAST Christmas concert in Dublin was such a desaster. I watched the videos of the gig on youtube. Shane seems to be in a seriously horrible state, but the other Pogues still do their best and that is great to see. I love Spider's version of Waltzing Matilda!
I can imagine that it was disappointing for the fans and embarassing for the band, but I would have still loved to be there... Really.
The Pogues are not the same without Shane and they wouldn't be the band we all love so much if Shane wasn't such an eccentric alcoholic. I hope that he is in a better condition during the rest of the show and that the band as well as the fans can enjoy the shows. And of course that there will be another Christmas concert in Dublin...

So Spider, were you were happy enough with the way Shane fascinated, entertained and inspired so many people last night?

Doesn't Shane have a manager or assistant who takes care that he shows up somehow in a condition of being able to perform in a appropriate condition ?

Odds on 'Best i've ever seen him' taking a 2-1 lead after Killarney are currently at 2/1 with Paddy Power.
HA!HA! Excellent post there!

I assume you are refering to Gram Parsons' Phil Kaufman- AKA Joey Cashman? Christ, i sense another online petition to have Cashman removed as Mangler/Manager!

Was that Joey in the fetching porkpie hat, standing behind Shane on the 9th? Watched the youtube stuff, 8th seeemed vastly superior, however Shane had it semi together as far as the vids show on the 9th. Now I'm worried, I have tix for the second Boston gig, and I'm sure Beantown has as many temptations as Dublin fair city. Oh well, it's been a good run, just gotta hope for a good night......now, I know the living legend hasn't penned anything in 15 years, but doesn't he allegedly have studio space, new songs, a new band, and a producer, Mick Jones, booked in the new year. I guess there are always the priests.......
