Sad but true. But nobody with the slightest interest in his person needs a concert reviewer to know that.
The only important thing is, what he and his mates are making of it. And here is where the text falls short big time on all levels.

Maybe "drunk" has a different meaning in different countries.
But I agree to a certain extent, as said before:
What you need is a singer who hits the intended expression, and in some cases a drunken singer even might add something quite essential to that, like it or not. Always has, by the way, and there were much worse things happening 20+ years ago than nowadays, as we all know.

I guess its hard to put too much stock into statements like these if you've been hearing them for about twenty years. But sure enough, at some point a prediction of Shane's demise will be correct I suppose.

He was there on stage right from the start of the show.

:) Yeah, you're right...i meant: he "arrived" in terms of singing the right words at the right time... At least in Münster it took the first two songs to get the Mac going...

Ah, sorry, got that one wrong I suppose...yeah, you're right, he came in whenever he wanted during "If I Should Fall..." without paying attention to the rhythm :-P It's the same on "Live at Montreux 1995"...Shane obviously needs a few songs to "arrive" as you put it ^_^

Allright, the article isn't completely right, but the base significative is, that shane needs help as far as possible, otherwise just a miracle can make him in life. I saw him in Hamburg and was shocked about his state.

Crap. He might be an alcoholic but has been for 30 years or more. As far as I'm concerned, he is doing fine these days, considering his drug-taking past and of course his alcohol addiction. Most people I told "I'm going to see the Pogues WITH Shane in Münster..." replied something like "I thought Shane MacGowan died already because of his drinking..."....so it's a kind of miracle that he made it to 52...I think he won't be dying soon, he looks really not bad nowadays (always bearing in mind his circumstances)...may he live long and live his life the way he wants to.

Yes, maybe he wasn't very drunk, but he was in a very bad condition. It's a miracle that he is alive at all, so he should better stop to drink if he doesn't want to risk his life. He risks his live since years, so there is no reason to continue as before.

Look, they said this stuff about Shane MacGowan 25 years ago and he's still here. One day, it will be true, as it was for Joe Strummer, Kirsty MacColl and countless other friends and colleagues and as it almost was for myself a couple of times. In the meantime, let's all stop playing God and appreciate people while they're still around?

I cannot read it anymore about the bad condition Shane was in and all this blablabla... I think we all cannot estimate the physical condition he is in. We see him once, maybe twice a year for two hours at a concert where we are more or less a little bit toxicated. Concerning me on the Münster concert it was a little bit more.
He has been great on the last Pogues tours in recent years and we all should be very happy that The Pogues still tour with the old lineup and still give us a very good show with wonderful music.
If they stop one day because of no matter what reason we will wish we could see them again with the Shane MacGowan in the condition he is now in...

I do not know who to thank for the Germany gigs, but I hope it was not the last time I saw you Phil and the rest of The Pogues on a German stage. How did you like it to be back in Germany by the way ?

See youn on christmas !!

Happy to be with it, be a part of it. From 1987 until now. And longer.

Who has written what for which paper?

It was great, thanks. There was a genuine wave of affection for the band, for what we were, for what we are, for whatever it is we've done to music and had done to us by music over the years.
