Berlin 3 Aug 2010

Post Tue Aug 03, 2010 8:33 pm

No thread for Berlin?

Just got home... It was wet but great. Thank you so much, guys. This will help me through the next (awful) days.

By the way: Ich bin eine Schokotorte!!! :D

I'm glad my Dad persuaded me to take more money with me than just 20 €. >>> 30 € for a shirt? Wow. But the color fits so nicely to my hair....

yes it was fucking good and fucking wet, not just because of the weather which was good because i was sweating like hell and the raindrops were like a little shower. though shane needed 5 minutes to get into the right mood....the same with the audience....just a few dancing people in the first two songs but then it was a really big party. so all in all shane and the band were in great form but i was wondering why terry wasn´t on stage this evening. hi mr. chevron can you please tell us why?

here´s a first video of "pair of..." ....very funny at the end. shane left the stage and spider said: "shane is gone for an indian hand massage" ;-)

Thanks for the video. I think I must have stood somewhere near you. Bit more to the left.

But I think it was a head massage. Hehe, but I'm not sure...

What can I say: Ich bin eine Currywurst!
But honestly, I'm still to impressed to express something of relevance.
Never realized, for example, what a beauty of a song Kitty really is. Got goose bumps when I heard it performed live now for the first time.
And there were quite a few almost heartbreakingly moving moments like that, where you clearly could feel: Shane hasn't lost it at all, what he sings comes directly from his heart.
Found him surprisingly understandable as well most of the time, except for the very fast ones.
And yes, I was wet, too, but mainly because of the streams of beer flying around all the time (shame, abuse!).
It was a hell of a show, you just HAVE to love them. ALL of them!
Thank you, Pogues!!!

did shane really said "schokotorte"? if yes it´s a really good joke...and yes uwe there were some heartbrokingly moments....a friend of mine who was with me who isn´t such a great fan felt in love with "rainy night in soho" and he was surprised how good it was as a song and how perfect the voice of shane fits to the songs and that there is another atmosphere when shane is off stage....and i have to agree with him. 1000s or tuesday morning are good songs but shanes voice is outstanding...drunken or not.

and mrs sinclair i prefer the hand massage ;-) hope he didn´t get it from his "manager" joey cashman who showed him the way from the stage with a flashlight...looked too stupid.

@lavabe:
The funny word Schokotorte was used, but I'm almost certain it wasn't by Shane. :?
And as much as I have to agree regarding "Rainy Night", which was brilliantly sung and surely one of these especially special moments, "Thousands" and "Tuesday" for me are so strongly associated with the voices of Phil and Spider, that I never felt they were less fitting than Shane's to his own songs. Namely "Thousands" as performed by Mr C. once again has proven it's status as a fan favourite with good reason. Didn't notice a fading excitement in the audience around me during that song, anyway.

Terry's expected absence was indeed flagged up on these fora some time ago: one of his lovely daughters is getting married this week in Ireland. Terry will return for Dranouter.

I clearly heard "Apfelstrudel" and something like "Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte" (?) from Shane....Schokotorte came from me because I love Schokotorte...;)

Thanks for this great Tuesday evening show at Berlin!!!
As I couldn´t manage to come to Brixton Academy last december due to snow, this was it: The Pogues in Berlin. No words. Although I was missing Terry Woods it was a terrific performance. I felt shivers while "Thousands are sailing" especially and "Rainy night at Soho".
What about a Live-DVD of this summer concert tour?

Oh, yes Shane said something like "Ich bin ein black forest ... (whatever, didn't get that one completely until everybody on stange added his 'ich bin ein/e...' in reference to JFK's famous Berlin speech)".
Possibly the better choice than a dedication to a former German dictator in the former "Reichshauptstadt"...
But I must have heard "Schokotorte" a well, so maybe we were standing not too far from each other.

It was fantastic! Thank you guys!
Hopefully next Sunday will be as good as yesterday, because it will be my girlfriend's first Pogues concert and I don't want her to be disappointed on her birthday.
Anyway, in Belgium, forget about the apfelstrudels, "Ik ben een groot pak frieten met mayonaise" is the thing to say. :D "Ik ben een blonde Leffe" is also possible.
@ Alex: nice to meet you! Have fun in Hamburg.
