At a push I would swap A Pair of Brown Eyes for NW3 - other than that, no complaints.
I wish I'd done biology for an urge within me wanted to do it then

Yes, you are entitled to your opinion. It seems unfortunate however that you wish to share it; given that it is such complete bollocks. Merry Xmas!

And don't forget, Shane would be fucked without the rest of the band. Do you think he'd be playing 2 sold out nights in Brixton or 3 in Dublin without the rest of the band? It cuts both ways.

As a fan, yes i would like to hear different songs. But as Philip pointed out, getting Shane to rehersals is nigh on impossible. So if i had a choice, same set list or no shows, i know which one i'd choose.

Can anybody tell me why Shane has absolutely no interest in Rehearsals ? Does he even do a soundcheck or just arrive shortly prior to the concert ?
I think he should be interested in doing a good show and in a good sound in the concert venue...

Just because it differs from yours?
It would be great to refresh the set list and the shows in general but it seems unfortunate however that fans are afraid to bother their idols (what if they get offended with our base ingratitude and stop touring at all?!!) and ready to shell out for the same show year after year... If fans are ready to pay for the current offer why would the band force themselves into rehearsals or studios to sweat over something new?
What is bollocks? Expecting some variety from skilled, gifted and PROFESSIONAL musicians who seem to be so proud about six figure sums in their contracts?

If shane does pack it in well i would still go see the other lads defos, off the top of my head i can think of....(Thousands,tuesday morning, repeal, metrapolis, young ned, star of the country down) that are in set lists at the moment there is also any other instrumentals, jesse james, wake of the medusa, honky tonk women, six to go, Would also love to see johnny come lately and me & bobby mcghee. There is alot of good music done without shane including the 2 albums without him so i dont see why they couldnt go on....

Hi !

You are maybe right, but that would not be the band I grew up with in the late 80ies...If Shane left or the other kicked him out(because he stole to many shades from spider) I would not fly from Germany to Ireland to see what is left of them or him. I like the setlist just the way it is. The songs they played on the first Dublin show a couple of weeks ago was perfect and three sold out shows that I am not the only one with that opinion. I am happy that they are still touring and that they found again a basis to have fun togehther on stage unless Shane does not get lost.
and to all the others who are complaining...stop whining about the ticket prices, the setlist or the prices for a pint...If you think, the prices are too high or the pints are too expensive, don't go, watch Hannah Montana on TV and let us satisfied fans have our fun for round about two hours...
Who knows how long we still have the possibility to see a Pogues live show

Happy new year to everybody !

I know a number of people who have been to Pogues gig year after year who refused to go this year due to the same songs in the same order

With the exception of Streams of Whiskey leading into If I shoud Fall... Ive never noticed that the set list is in the same order?????? The music is so so good that as soon as it starts I feel like its just a big fuck off party or singalong or whatever. I cant see what the problem is. I have to agree with Soulfinger though (even though he supports Man Utd ;) ha ha) in saying that the comments made about Shane being the Pogues and the others just in it for the money is bollocks. Its alright saying people have an oppionion blah blah but if someone is talking absolute shite then it needs to be pointed out.

Seems to me that where people are not applauding the addition of "Metropolis" to recent shows, they are bitching about the alleged same-old-same-old quality of the set, proving you can never adequately please all of the people all of the time. We cannot reintroduce "Young Ned Of The Hill" for three or four consecutive shows without taking flak for then "dropping" it again. So, as I mentioned before, we tend to please ourselves. We've always understood that if, in pleasing ourselves, we cease to please our audiences, well, they will simply stop coming to see us and that, friends, is the bargain every single person who goes into the show business accepts from the moment they step on a stage. Fortunately, we have, for the most part, been blessed with a following which understands that when I, or somebody else in the band, makes the claim in an interview that what we play is living, breathing words and music that exists anew for us each time we play it, it is not a bullshit claim but a reaffirmation of the essential timelessness of the Pogues' songs.

However, all of this is, in some ways, beside the point. The original poster wanted to know why we continually short-changed him/her by playing the same songs over and over again for almost 30 years/almost 10 years, which was apparent to me from the original question, even if the poster believed s/he was disguising it by asking whether the BAND ever got bored of playing the same songs. And quite simply, a dishonest question does not merit an honest answer. By the time the poster, masquerading as usual as "Guest" had gotten around to letting us know what was really on his/her mind, s/he had, inevitably, descended into the customary yed-be-nothing-without-Shane-and-yer-all-a-shower-of-breadheads-anyway rant, a feature of which we have all, by now, become strangely and unaccountably fond. I for one would feel the year had not been celebrated fully had we not heard from our curmudgeonly friend, though I do suggest he/she save this reply for posterity, as it is the only one he/she will ever get. Perhaps "Guest" can drag it up from the Medusa archives every year for reappraisal until such time as, say, boredom sets in from the endless repetition.
