As good as last night in Sheffield. The crowd was a bit more raucus - Manchester had taken the odd pint this evening. It was a joy to see the Pogues back at the Apollo again. I know it's not the earner for the band that playing the Arena must be, but it's so much more atmospheric for the fans. Same set as last night, I think. Personal highlights were Metropolis, Dirty Old Town, Sickbed and Thousands. For a man with a dodgy leg, James threw himself about with even more abandon than usual.

I've now got that "I wish I was going to Brixton" feeling that I get every year. I should really get over the xenophobia that keeps me out of that London.

Two words. completely amazing !! After travelling to Dublin last week in search of the amazing but getting attacked by too much booze once I got there, last night I too decided to join forces with sobriety....and it worked I can remember the whole gig ....and how good it was !!

Its a good few years since I have been in the appollo and the reason why it is such a good venue is because its a more or less identical scale model of Brixton and as such gives a great feel to the Pogues as in my opinion its that style of venue where the crowd can get the most out of their performance. I had always gone to Manchester gigs but stopped last year once it went back from GMEX to the MEN. I just could not do the arena again - so this years appollo show meant manchester was back on my Pogues 09 tour !!!

The band were on stage a little later than usual at about 9.30 but still hammered their way through all the set above (I dont remember Greenland whales - but am very prone to memory loss). I know everyone has been saying it but Shane was on absolute TOP form from start to finish

Being soberish gave me the chance to notice all the little things going on which you can normally miss whilst trying to steady yourself at the front ! Phillips dancing and guitar acrobatics during metropolis, Terry seemed to have a microphone to do backing vocals for quite a few /most songs - does this mean his voice may be able to give us at least one 'young ned' by the end of the week ? James 'the maestro' did at least two (maybe three) stage slides. Spider and Shanes interaction was jokey throughout. Ella having to really struggle to keep Shane on his feet towards the end of their dance. Even how much snow sticks to Darryls hair ! How mental the home crowd go for Dirty ol Town. Great to see Star of the County Down back in - probably was last week but I can't remember. All the little things you can easily miss made it as enjoyable as being smashed and smashed about .

Can't wait till Brixton on Friday and Saturday now and I mean I really cant wait. But the question is sober or not .....hmmmmm

There have been lots of postive post regarding the recent live shows and I can only concure.
The Pogues are a really tight outfit at the minute.
Thanks to all concerned for making my best 3 gigs of this year all Pogues shows.
