All I can say is WOW. Every member of the Pogues was
awesome tonight!! Sorry I don't have a complete set list but
we were treated with HUGE changes tonight. The show opened
with Sally. Not only did we get to hear Ned and Star, but we also got
White City, Transmetropolitan, and Old Main Drag. Rover was also
added back to encore #1. Sayonara, Turkish, and Boys were dropped. Can't
even come close to thanking the Pogues enough for coming to Arizona.
Thanks a milllion guys!!!!

Has Turkish Song of the Damned made it in lately? I'm going to the KC show on Sunday, and I'm hoping that it will make it. Halloween is approaching, after all.

Not to be selfish or anything, but I hope Lullaby of London is back in Kansas City. However, the changes look good, for the most part, to me.

White City! Delightful. I realize My Blue Heaven shan't be played in New Orleans but I wish to be on the record with my dismay. If there was ever a time to play it. I believe it was last attempted at soundcheck at Birmingham, Alabama's wonderful Sloss Furnace.

A few more comments on last night.
1)Shane was in great form. There was a heavy duty barstool available on stage but he didn't need to touch it...even once.
2) It was very interesting seeing the band work together to play the new-old songs that have not been preformed in a while. They seemed to have a great time playing some other songs live.
3)Shanes sweater (from or for Victoria) was classic. It looked like a knit "Thneed" from the Dr. Seuss book "The Lorax":)

Great night last night...can't believe Transmopolitan made it back onto the set list...and it was done brilliantly - as was Thousands Are Sailing...the emotion in that song just never tires. Met Darryl, James and Jem at the back door...would have loved to have met Phillip...Of now to Desert Botanical Gardens with the kids to clear my fuzzy head. The Pogues have come and left - Phoenix is becoming Transmetropliotan - yipp- ay ye!!!!

Let me heartily add my appreciation and love for the majesty that was unveiled last night. This was my first Pogues show, even though I've been a fan since I was 9 or 10. I really had no idea what to expect...despite shadowing the board like a hawk for weeks now, I also know that every show has its own dynamic and feel. What I got was an experience that I've only had once before, when I finally got to see Tom Waits live. This wasn't a concert or a show...it was the closest that a non-religious guy like me can get to a religious experience.

I went in expecting a certain setlist (I'm the kind of idiot who studies setlists and tries to figure out what will be played. After starting with Sally, though, I threw my setlist away and just dived into the experience. White City and Transmetro were huge surprises but Old Main Drag? I bawled like a baby. Between that and finally getting to hear IISFFGWG live, I believe that I can now die a happy man.

And the band...oh my, the band! Everyone on that stage performed like the place was on fire and only the cooling powers of mass Poguitude could quench the flames. Shane was amazing...simply no other word for it. Philip, your turn on Thousands was just awe-inspiring. Plus, of course, you are just such a complete and total badass (my wife looked over at me and said, "Why can't you dress like that?") and a truly awesome guy (I've never met you but read your posts on the board). And of course, I can't forget the rest of the boys, who were all so unbelieveably tight that you'd think you guys were some kind of legendary band or something...what a minute...you are! Again, thank you a million times over for coming to Arizona and changing my life. I will keep my fingers crossed for another trip to the Valley of the Sun in the future. I still have a smile on my face (and in my heart) from last night.

I know that I just posted a book, but I actually forgot one question I had for Philip: how did you guys feel about Arizona (the crowd, the atmosphere, the show itself)? Was it one of those experiences where you looked at each other and said, "Man, why haven't we been here before?" or was it more of a "Man, I can't wait to put this state in my rearview mirror?" After attending shows here for 15+ years, I've found AZ crowds to be very hit-or-miss and, occasionally, quite obnoxious. Last night's crowd was great: singing along, jumping around and generally having the time of their lives. Of course, it probably helped that you guys have more infectious energy than a proton with the flu, but was it a good show for you, too?

The crowd seemed a little unsure of us to begin with, and I felt that putting the show back almost an hour [this was because the support bands would have played to an almost empty house if we'd begun on time] helped to exhaust people a little. Also, although "The Old Main Drag" was sublime, we struggled with the other two new-old numbers. However, there is no doubt that by about halfway through the show, Tempe joined the select list of great first-time crowds.

Thanks for your comments and support.
