There used to be. Since it doesn't seem to be around any more I'll guess that it was auto-removed after inactivity (remember that topics in Speaker's Corner that are idle for more than 90 days are auto-deleted).

Feel free to start a new one.

I sort of miss the old thread, and should've bumped it before it slipped off the raft and into the bottomless seas... any chance it could be dragged back up into Classics, DzM?

Hard to say. There's a slim chance an old copy of it may exist in a backup. Generally, though, auto-pruned is auto-deleted. That means that the fora software actually removes the data from the database.

I'll try to dig into it in the next day or two. Sadly my Day Job for The Company (All Praise The Company) is chewing up most of my free time. I can't promise that I'll get to it at all soon.

"Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen, 'cause it was on the radio driving home from work. I only get AM. And not most of it at that, so i takes what i gets. Sometimes, it's terrible. Sometimes, it's like it's just for me.

A man of the moment, our Low D. A decision maker and a problem solver. Huzzah Low D! :)

It's not really stuck in my head just now, but I'm listening to "When You're Falling" by Afro Celt Sound System + Peter Gabriel and this song often gets stuck in my head after DJ Shuffle plays it. Somehow I think it's the rhythm mandolin that does it to me. I'm a sucker for that kind of thing.

This thread is quite popular in one of the other forums I frequent although you do end up with songs from previous posts replacing the ones that you just wrote about - I'm reminded of this fact that I now have Battleship Chains by the Georgia Satellites in my mind

Strangely, since this new thread was started, there haven't really been any tunes going on in my head. The in-brain ipod is kaput. A few fragments of Brooce, but nothing else...

Usually, if there's nothing else to oust it, Repeal Of The Licensing Laws plays in there on a sort of loop. Ah, there it is now.

I missed this thread too. I have had Winter in America by Gil Scott Heron stuck in my head for days and it won't leave; even though my worst fears for the US election have been well and truly leathered. :?

Toyota has been trying to destroy my High School memories of music AND get a crappy 80s song stuck in my head by using "Saved By Zero" (by The Fixx) in one of their ads. And they're just using a re-recorded cover that is pretty much limited to the chorus/hook, making it that much easier to get stuck in my damn head.

Danny Boy, Danny Boy, @#$*ing Danny Boy! My daughter is learning it on the violin all week (good one to practice long notes on), so firmly in my head it's been. But i've given her both the Shane/Popes version (Christmas EP) and the Pogues one (Peel session, on the box set); the former she plays along with just fine, the latter she finds challengingly slow. But none of it matters to me, 'cause i've got it stuck in my bloody head all the time. I flew into a full out opratic version in teh parking garage yesterday. Madness.

He's done awful things to "Molly Malone" and "The Farrows of Tralee"
He's murdered "Carach Fergus" and poor old "Mother Machree"
He's just thrashed his way through "Galway Bay" and "The Wild Irish Rose"
and if he starts singing "Danny Boy", I'm gonna punch him in the nose!

Do musicians get songs stuck in their heads, and if they do, are they usually their own songs, their own incipient songs, other people's songs? I hope they get good songs stuck in their heads. More often than not, the songs that stick in my brain are not my favorites by any means.

The origin of the original thread with this title (which lately fell overboard) was in fact an article about the sort of songs that do tend to get stuck in the head. And most of them were not good songs.

[Edit: And here's a link to the article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2006/jun/22/popandrock
Caution: reading it is likely to put dire music in your head. Damn.]
