Mine was shite but that's beside the point. February is almost over and before you know it I'll be St. Pat' s! The best holiday of the year!!!!

We had a wild Valentine's night here last night, but only because of the mad gales swirling round the house. A tree fell on a mail van just down the road from here, leading to traffic chaos. Though we have escaped the floods, as yet.

Oh my aching head! No more JAMESON!! I hope the floods miss you Firehazard! We had a flood once when I lived with my parents. They can do a lot of damage. Stay safe!!

Liverpool has pretty much missed the floods but I didn't appreciate the 100 mile an hour force 12 hurricane we had on Wednesday evening which caused total chaos in Liverpool the following morning.

I think we're likely to escape the floods round here. Although we're actually situated below sea level, the Fens are an effective flood defence.

Aching Monday head. Probably down to the Oliver Cromwell Gin someone gave us, which we opened last night. I'm hoping that Cromwell (a curse upon you...) is rotating uncomfortably in his grave.

Poor Firehazard! I know that feeling, you know, when the birds are swaying and the trees are singing, I feel great maybe I'll go for a walk today. Then the hangover goblins come out ha, ha, ha! (Evil laugh) *Dylan Moran.
Take some "Fizzy make feel nice" (alka selzer)!

All my own fault for drinking alcohol named after a tyrannical megalomaniac Puritan. Undeserving of sympathy.

Just stumbled across this post today, and thought i'd chime in with the opinion that "Rapunzel Post-Coitus" and "With Sauce Please" sound more like album names, not bands.

I remember the train in front of us jackknifing off a bridge coming from Midway once. Buses were already waiting below to take passengers to the next station. I guess we climbed down ladders? Can't recall everything, just remember watching the story on the Chicago News that night. But this is freaking crazy. Makes you want to think twice about running down the escalator in a big hurry. Even if the L is most likely to go up the up escalator.

I wanna go to Chicago.

UB40 gig in Cambridge "made ears bleed". Apparently because it was too loud.

The sound at Cambridge Corn Exchange has been pretty carp for years, but still...

We're lurking, Heather, but not posting. Now that I'm here, I may as well ask - How many of you have been thinking of selling your vinyl collection? Have you already? Do you regret it? How often do you play the records versus cd or mp3?

Quick answer to your first question, territa, would be "No". I think my vinyl collection would be just about the last thing I'd sell, and only in the case of extreme hardship. It's sort of part of me. I'd probably sell at least one of my legs first.

But I'd have to admit I don't play them that often these days. I need a new turntable really.

FH, the Dual corporation is *STILL* making some of the best affordable turntables out there, starting at about $250 here in Canada. Many of the new ones have built-in pre-amps and so can be plugged into the "aux" input on any device. Older used ones can often be bought for a song. I'm using an 1975 Dual 510 i bought for $100, with a newer Philidelphia cartridge ($65, incl. 2 needles ) and it sounds fabulous. And i love that it has it's own fan page.
http://www.dual-reference.com/tables/510.htm

I sold a huge chunk of vinyl (some of which i regret parting with, and some I have re-bought) one summer in university to pay my rent. I sold another large chunk during a 3+ month strike, as my strike pay wasn't getting the groceries! Again, i regret some of that. But i've still got a couple hundred, and still buy new (used) stuff from time to time. My cds outnumber the vinyl these days, for sure. But, as Philip would say, I am still quite enamored with the artifact. And while the recent Pogues remasters got it right, many cd reissues do indeed sound crap: thin and tinny, compressed and boomy... inferior in every way. The recent Boomtown Rats reissues are a good example, they don't hold a candle to the vinyl.
