Too late for this year, sadly.

I was lusting after the whisky one pretty badly a month or so ago:

The whisky one does look pretty awesome. And it somehow feels like 24 days of whisky might be better for you than 24 days of gin. Either would be a great title for a book. I'd read the series.

So I was struggling to sleep last night, and I found myself reading the Medusa archives. I actually read the entire thread of OIRISH ROOOIIVER! That didn't put me to sleep at all, in fact it made me even more awake. I realise that the majority of my posts have been about football on here. Yet, on the football forum I post about music and wine! So I read for 4 hours straight. I feel like I've never been away.

Can't tell you all how excited I am for Thursday. I feel like its going to be like a new gig I've not seen before. I genuienly have butterflies!

How many gigs have I been to now? I've lost count! Did we ever get to the bottom of the FANATIC that posts on here that has been to the most? I'm probably wrong but was it villajohn? Was there ever a thread? Hmmm I'm off to look !

Tarantino gets miffed over fairly mild questioning from the excellent Krishnan Guru-Murthy in C4 News interview:

I now have to find some way to work the phrase "I'm shutting your butt down" into everyday conversation.

(I don't think he does exactly shut his butt down, by the way. I somehow feel that would mean something a bit more visceral than carrying on talking about your new movie for a few more minutes.)

He seemed quite clear and direct and once the guy managed to get off that line of questioning he went right back to being congenial.

I haven't seen the movie, probably something to do with Jamie Foxx. I see his point, he resisted giving a sound bite that links him with everything wrong with the U.S.A. / world. Good for him.

He certainly didn't get all Billy Bob Thornton or anything. 8)

I think he's quite honest with his answers and correct that the subject of slavery isn't addressed here. I remember when they asked the prospective Democratic candidates if they supported the idea of reparations and Kucinich was the only one who said yes. I mean, holy shit! It was indeed a set up question for Obama... but WTF?

I waited to watch Inglourious Basterds at home and probably will get around to seeing Django.
Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction I like. Kill Bill is torture.

I knew he wrote True Romance but didn't realize he wrote story on Natural Born Killers.

He probably just did it on purpose anyways.

From what I can gather, there's a feeling over this side of the water that Tarantino came across as a right arse.

Probably misguided (or badly advised by whoever advises him) to accept an interview on a serious news programme if all he wants to do is "promote the movie" rather than answer serious questions that he doesn't feel like answering...

Still, all good publicity.

Although, one might wonder at a program that decides to ask Tarantino "serious" questions, at least beyond the scope of cinema. He was on CBC's Q recently, and thought it was great that he was asked about the violence and the blood, in terms of liking it in movies and what he likes about it and what he's done with it. I mean, clearly, that's what he's about. Why the fuck would you think there was any point in asking him about Obama, or any president?

I'm not a huge fan, also found Kill Bill a total waste, and Natural Born Killers hyped as something deep that wasn't. But i liked Reservoir Dogs. I still think True Romance is his masterpiece, though (directed by Tony Scott).

What I don't like is that he (Tarantino) is obviously willing to discuss the much more difficult subject of slavery in America and the interviewer wants the big money question about violence answered instead.

Other than trying to fan a spat with Spike Lee the interviewer didn't want to follow that line of questioning, did he?

Racial divide and the history of slavery in America is a much more delicate subject than the question does a violent arts culture beget real violence in society.

Americans tend to come across all coarse and blowsy compared to those pretty accents and stiff shoulders. Such is life. :D

I also like that he quoted the Sex Pistols.
