Presumably this explains why they are so good at it.

Corporate bullshit-speak has now become so detached from comprehension, clarity and simplicity that we have fostered a generation of functional illiterates.

I'm not sure this qualifies as corporate double-speak bullshit. To me this is very droll and "English" (as in "A product of England"). I suspect it shows a grand and unappreciated sense of humor from some lackey at the post, and that this person has been quietly smiling while sending notes like this for thirty years. At least I hope so.

True. I have only admired it from afar.

Sitting here watching the garden disappear under water as the rain continues to fall. Hasn't stopped for days now. We're officially in a drought here.

Accordion wrestling...

... is on its way to the UK, apparently. There's something for us to look forward to in these dark days of austerity.

A relative of mine was staying in a hotel somewhere in mainland Europe last week. In the middle of the night, the phone in her room rang. Half asleep, she answered it, "Hello."

"Erm," said an male voice. "Can you tell me the time please?"

"Hang on a minute," she said, somewhat befuddled. "Let me find my glasses... [pause]... It's about 10 past 2."

"Ok, thanks then," said the unknown man. And whoever he was rang off.

She was totally confused about this, until it was pointed out to her a couple of days later that she was staying in room 123. And 123 is the number to dial in the UK for the Speaking Clock service. So presumably another British resident had forgotten that it was an internal phone (and that they were in Europe anyway). And probably thought that the lacklustre response was down to the cuts...

I am officially an idiot.

I went into town today to exchange a theatre ticket because my preferred show got cancelled. I've only gone and booked a new date slap bang in the middle of my two weeks off work.

Can't wait for Jake to find out. :?

I'm in need of a bit of help actually. I hope you don't mind me asking.

I'm editing a play, it's a comedy. I'm trying to think of funny names for bands. Everything I think of isn't funny so I'm asking everyone. Feel free to contribute. Bear in mind, the character who was in the band (which was going about twenty odd years ago or more) is about fifty and a Liverpudlian. Try not to be too insulting to Liverpudlian's please. If it's a success you'll get a mention in my programme notes. :D

Have you been able to pick a name yet or is it stiil on going Heather.
Would be interested to see what names made the short list. Any good names from other sources other than this thread.
That apart good luck with it.

I'm more or less decided but new suggestions are all welcome as I am known for changing my mind a lot.

In 1972, who'd've imagined it?

Drink more whisky and help save the environment! Deal to turn whisky 'leftovers' into biofuel for cars:
