That first article mentions that the cups are filled with "unknown substance" so much, I want to know what it is.

Poo, perhaps?

On watching that video my first question was "which iTunes 'visualizer' are they using on the giant LED screens?" It reminded me of the movie Galaxy Quest where the captain guy tells some underling on the bridge to "set monitors for screen saver 2."

After that I got a good laugh from the announcers.

"We are trying to sort out some technical difficulties."

and

"We ask you please to refrain from throwing items at [Axl]."

Imagine no jewel-encrusted writing utensils...

This year marks the 70th anniversary of John
Lennon's
birth. And for the occasion, penmaker
Montblanc has come out with a special pen.
The John Lennon model goes for $27,000. It
has diamonds and sapphires and on its side,
the word "imagine" is written in white gold.
Disclaimer: These are my opinions and not fact as realised in these here United States, lest I give my friends the idea that everyone thinks like me.

Yes it is. On the other hand, set against a special temperature-controlled room in the Dakota Building in which to house one's fur coat collection, it may even be considered "ironic", in a 1980 sort of way. Is it the 1980 revival and nobody told me?

Well ... To be totally fair, Montblanc DOES make a really nice anachronistic pointing and marking device. I had to sign some contracts once and the lawyer had a non-diamond-encrusted, non-white-gold-inlaid Montblanc. I think he said it was a steal at only $400. But it was a really NICE pen.

Between that pen, and the Porsche it appeared he had much to compensate for!

An intriguing local news story:
Couple victims of laptop 'potato' fraud
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-ca ... e-11476851

A man and a woman paid £650 for what they believed to be a laptop computer - only to discover they had been sold a bag of potatoes.
The couple were approached on Tuesday by a man in Huntingdon High Street who offered to sell them a laptop.
They viewed the laptop in a rucksack and withdrew £650 in cash from a bank to pay the man.
They later found potatoes and cardboard in the bag. Police appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
The seller was described as white, aged about 30, at least 6ft with reddish brown hair and stubble. He wore light blue jeans.

Q1: Why would you buy a laptop from someone who approached you in the street?
Q2: Why would you pay £650 for it, when you can get one cheaper in the shops?
Q3: How could you mistake a bag of potatoes for a laptop?
Q4: What kind of potatoes were they?
Q5: Anyone fancy some chips?

Weezer 'offered' $10m to split up
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/oc ... m-split-up

A group of frustrated music fans want Weezer to break up, and they're willing to pay them. Claiming the band has never improved on their 1996 album Pinkerton, the organisers of a new campaign hope to raise $10m to convince Weezer to pack it in and stop "disappointing" fans. "This is an abusive relationship," the project's creator said. "It needs to [end]."

"I'm tired of it," James Burns explained to Seattle's the Stranger. "Every year, Rivers Cuomo swears that he's changed, and that [Weezer's] new album is the best thing that he's done since Pinkerton, and what happens? Another pile of crap like Beverly Hills or I'm Your Daddy." Instead of leaving snarky comments on the internet, Burns is urging like-minded haters to put their money where their mouths are. "I beg you, Weezer," he said. "Take our money and disappear."

Burns has a long way to go. At the time of writing, he has raised a grand total of $273 (£172) toward his $10m (£6.3m) goal. But if Guardian readers suddenly flock to the campaign, remortgaging their homes to banish Weezer for good, it could conceivably work out. The band's drummer, Patrick Wilson, commented on Twitter: "If they can make it 20[million dollars]," he wrote, "we'll do the 'deluxe breakup.'"

According to Burns, Weezer's musical entropy doesn't just affect fans – it affects everyone. "I have never been a fan of this band," he said. "I think that they are pretty much horrible ... [But Weezer fans] are our brothers and sisters, our friends, our lovers ... I am tired of my friends being disappointed year after year."

Weezer's latest album, Hurley, may or may not have been named after a brand of clothing. It is out now.
