 My external hard drive died today . Powered up only to hear click click click. Was going to post this in the R.I.P. thread the loss is so great but decided against it , best leave that thread for loss of family friends and other greats.Tried opening up the conection /board side of the drive only find nothing wrong / all connections look good.
In my heart I kind of knew the noise was the platter side anyway and the drive was gone. This is the first drive of any kind that has died on me .I know it has happened to others on here eg DZM.Is it all ways this depressing and does it happen often ? Luckly this is the smaller of 2 external hard drives I have , a back up to a back up[belt and braces ] ,so very little will have been lost in terms of files.Just the cost of the thing itself and the cost of new one to repalace it. I have left it in the freezer as a last attempt to get it going again but have little hope this will work .

We've been to Walibi Land in the Netherlands yesterday. Fun place. Good rides. Terrible food.

Kings of Leon forced off stage by incontinent pigeons
Band abandon gig after pigeons defecate on them from the rafters of a US concert venue...

Kings of Leon were forced to cancel a show last week after being showered with pigeon droppings. The flock of avian music critics brought the St Louis concert to a cooing halt after just three songs. "You may enjoy being shit on," explained the band's drummer, "but we don't."

Even before Kings of Leon took the stage at the Verizon Amphitheatre, feathers were being ruffled. As the Postelles and the Stills played their opening sets, pigeons in the arena's rafters made their displeasure known by pelting the bands with excrement. "We couldn't believe what the Postelles and the Stills looked like after their sets," said Kings of Leon bassist Jared Followill. "[But] we didn't want to cancel the show, so we went for it."

Everything seemed fine for the first two songs, then Kings of Leon fled the stage after performing Taper Jean Girl. Minutes later, an announcement came over the PA saying that the concert had been cancelled "due to concerns over the band's safety". The audience reportedly booed, hissed and – slightly inaccurately – yelled "Bullshit!"

"We tried to play," Followill explained. "It was ridiculous." According to the band's manager, Andy Mendelsohn, Followill was hit "several times during the first two songs", and on the third number, droppings "landed near his mouth". "They couldn't deal any longer," Mendelsohn said. "It's not only disgusting – it's a toxic health hazard."

"Don't take it out on Jared," drummer Nathan Folowill wrote on Twitter. "It's the fucking venue's fault." The band's management claim the amphitheatre advised them of a "significant pigeon infestation problem", but insisted they were "doing all they could to fix it". They don't seem to have done enough. "So sorry St Louis," Nathan wrote. "Pigeons shitting in Jared's mouth ... We had to bail." It's unclear whether any concertgoers were similarly besmeared, but the gig's promoters are providing full refunds.

In about 18 hours or so, my sister Bookish and her family will be touching down in Sydney for one week (after spending 9 days in Melbourne), the first time back since moving to Wales five years ago. Yay!!

This is quite interesting...we lost a magnificent cactus this year due to too much rain... sad day in mudville indeed

I had a Split Toe cactus in a pretty Mexican can. Decor for a fiesta. I accidently left it behind and a rich woman stole it for her estate. She had hundreds of cactus but no Split Toe! The rich get richer. :D

soulfinger Jr has demonstrated his intellectual superiority to his dad by achieving the required A level grades for the only course of its kind in England - which he was desperate to do. His balloon was punctured by the news that the Pogues are not playing Leeds this year........

Ooh Matron!

Thank you sir! The boy's off to the Leeds Festival thing tonight and I am a bit jealous. Mumford and Sons & Frank Turner would be good .....but music, tents, fields and rain are not for me any more.

My wee girl did a good job with her GCSE's too so I am a very happy soul(finger) :D

Well done to the junior soulfingers!

Ah, the kids going off to Reading/Leeds and leaving you at home in the warm with your slippers on is a mark of growing up. Or getting old. Or something. I remember it well. At least I think I do. My memory's not what it was these days.

GnR (which apparently is now just Axl Rose and some other guys) pelted with plastic cups, and left the stage in Dublin.
