New study discovers musicians are more likely to die young
http://www.nme.com/news/nirvana/30853

A new study has concluded that musicians are set to more likely to die an early death then the rest of the population.

Research published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health today (September 4) said that musicians are more likely to pass away young.

The findings are based on 1,050 American and European musicians and singers who were active between 1956 and 1999. The average age of death was 42 for US musicians, and 35 for European musicians.

Long term drug or alcohol problems accounted for the early demise.

Authors of the report Professor Mark Bellis and Professor John Ashton said: "Public health consideration needs to be given to preventing music icons promoting health-damaging behaviour amongst their emulators and fans.

"Stars could do more to actively promote positive health messages, but these need to be backed up by example.

"Where pop star behaviour remains typified by risk taking and substance use, it is unlikely that young people will see any positive health messages they champion as credible."

Still it's not all bad news, if they can survive the early years, European stars were returned to the same levels of life expectancy as the rest of the population some 25 years after finding fame, although US musicians were still liable to die younger.

Something tells me that Shane was not included in that study. It would probably have weighted the results too much in a particular direction.

Well, given that Mr MacGowan is approaching 50, he's already way past the "average age" of early demise suggested by the report...

Dublin takes it out of you :(

Had two interviews yesterday and three today.

Soooo tired. Never EVER doing the first flight out of Heathrow again. My body clock has gone to pot and a couch just isn't cutting it. Can anyone tell me a nice hotel in city centre which is reasonable? Would be appreciated.

I´w lived at Clifton Court twice and it´s very reasonable price. And it´s as central as possible.Clifton Court Hotel, 11 Eden Quay, O'Connell Bridge (Alot of Medusans met in there bar last year before the show in Dublin, it´s called "The Met")

I payed 50 €/night dubbleroom. breakfast inkl.

Telephone: 01202 716352

I´m proab. not the best to give addvice, but thats my suggestion.

Hope you´ll find something,

Cheers

Are you applying for the same sort of job you do now, or is it a career change?

Thanks to a change in ownership at my company, I'm spending tonight re-applying for my job. Some fun.

I've been working at one place for less than 3 years now, and this is the third owner. Assuming they deem me qualified to do the same thing I've been doing for my entire professional career, I'm hoping for a little stability now.
